P5a Wednesday 20th January 2021 – Literacy

This afternoon in literacy we are working on antonyms and synonyms. Antonyms are words opposite in meaning to another and synonyms are words with the same meaning as another. Everyone should read through the PowerPoint below, then find the tasks for your group. The Dahl’s and Morpurgo’s will work on the same task, The Blyton’s will work on a different task, and The Wilson’s will also have a different task. When you finish your tasks, please go on a vocabulary hunt using your novel and change some of the words for synonyms or antonyms. I look forward to hearing some of these during our end of day check in.

Everybody

*Pic 1 – This is the beginning of Charlotte’s Web, chapter 3. Read it carefully and think about all the different smells mentioned. You can probably imagine some of them!
In your jotter write the title ‘Smells’.
Choose a few of your favourite smells and explain what they are, and why you like them so much. They might remind you of happy places and lovely memories or they might make you feel a certain way.
Now do the same for a few of your least favourite smells.
Perhaps you could take a photo of your work and post it onto the class chat?

 Numeracy Task – 9.30-10.15am

Activity 1 – Sumdog

This week we are participating in Glasgow’s Sumdog Maths Contest. Please log into sumdog for 15 minutes each day. The skills you will focus on will be skills chosen by sumdog for you to work on. Good luck in the contest!

Activity 2 – Number cards and number line

We have already learned to use the words ‘before’ and ‘after’ when using our number cards and number line. Today we are learning to use the word ‘in between’. You already have number cards from 0-12. Can you make your own number cards so that you have number cards from 0-20. You could use paper from your jotter to make these.

Ask an adult to muddle up your number cards from 0-20. Start by putting the numbers in the correct order. Ask an adult to ask you questions such as; what number is in between 2 and 4, in between 13 and 15, or in between 18 and 20? Remember to focus on using the language ‘in between’.

Activity 3 – Play Bingo with a family member

Write down any six numbers between 0-15 (or 0-20 for a challenge). Ask an adult to say a number and if you have that number written down in your jotter then cross it out. For an extra challenge you could ask an adult to say; ‘do you have the number in between 10 and 12?’ When all your numbers are crossed out you shout bingo!

Literacy

We will be focusing on the ‘ch’ phoneme so I would like everyone to have a go at writing 3 sentences which contain a ‘ch’ sounding word. Remember to add capital letters, full stops and connectives.  You can write your sentences in your jotter. I will be looking for some beautiful handwriting too.

Writing an imaginative story. Please watch the PowerPoint for a better understanding of what I will be expecting from you. I have also attached a planning sheet for you to brainstorm your ideas which should help you in your writing.

Tuesday 19th January
Literacy Task 11.10-12.10pm

Read over ‘My Clothes’ again. You should hopefully find this in the Files section across from the word Posts.

Using real clothes, make a person in a space on the floor…..don’t forget to give them eyes, a nose and a mouth! Write labels for your person on pieces of paper and put the labels beside each part…….T-shirt, sock, shoe, hat.

In your jotter, draw a picture of your person. Underneath, write 1 or more sentences to describe your person. E.g. He has a red hat. He has a spotty t-shirt. His shoes are blue.

I will look forward to seeing your pictures and hearing your stories at the Check In this afternoon.

P1b Numeracy Task – Tuesday 19th January

Tuesday 19th January
Numeracy Task – 9.30-10.15am

15 minutes of Sumdog, or more if you want!

You should already have the 0-10 flash cards at home, that were given out previously. Can you please get an adult to make you some more to add to these. 11-15, or if you are confident with these numbers, then do 11-20. They don’t have to be made from card, you can use a sheet of paper. You can take this from the back of your jotter if you need to.

-Get an adult to muddle these up and then you sort them in order from 0-15 or    0-20 depending on how many cards you have.
-Recap from last week. Pointing at your flash cards, count up from 0 and then backwards from 15 or 20. Choose different numbers as your starting point to count up and down from. Do this several times.
-Get an adult to choose two numbers and ask you “What comes between?”
E.g. What comes between 2 and 4, What comes between 16 and 18?

Play Bingo with your family. Use your whiteboard if you have one(or a piece of paper if not) and split it into quarters, like we do in class. Write one number in each box. Muddle up all your flash cards and put them face down in front of you. Choose a flash card and say the number out loud. If you have that number, cross it out. The first person to cross out all 4 numbers wins.

*Remember to have your magnetic board for today’s Live Literacy Lesson.
* Could you also try to access the reading book PDF file I’ve put in to the Files section(across from where it says Posts)before the Live Lesson, so that I can find out whether you are able to access it or not. Thanks.
