PRIMARY 2 & PRIMARY 3 READ WRITE COUNT BAGS – IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR FAMILIES

Dear Families,

Today we will be launching the Scottish Book Trusts – Read, Write Count Bags at Hillington Primary. The Read, Write, Count programme gifts bags to all Primary 2 and Primary 3 children in Scotland. The bags are a great opportunity to build relationships with parents and strengthen links between home and school learning. The contents for each bag change on a yearly basis and include two picture books, educational toys and a notebook.

Research has shown that if books and materials are explored in school first, children and parents are far more likely to use them together at home. This is because children are familiar with and excited by the materials. Your child’s class teacher has already explored the contents of the bags with their classes.

Today each Primary 2 and 3 pupil will bring a Read, Write Count bag home with them. This is for them to keep at home and explore with you. The aim of Read, Write, Count is to encourage families to include reading, writing and counting activities in their everyday lives. More information about the programme and how to use the bags at home can be found within the bags and on the Scottish Book Trust’s website –

https://www.scottishbooktrust.com/reading-and-stories/read-write-count/read-write-count-bag-gifting

We hope you enjoying sharing and exploring the bag with your child.

Air Pollution

P6b were learning about air pollution, what it is, where it comes from and what we can do to reduce it. They made some excellent and eye catching posters after they researched as much as they could.

Aaron the book creator

Thank you very much to Aaron Potter who helped Miss Hughes create a tutorial for the tidal turbines experiment.  This tutorial will help other teachers and classes with the experiment that our class carried out. What a super star.

Glasgow Sumdog challenge

Two of our children, from p5a and p7b, have done incredibly well in the Glasgow Sumdog challenge, coming 15th and 38th respectively. 6319 children, from all over Glasgow, participated, so they should feel very proud of themselves – well done you two!
