P2/1 Symmetry

Before the holidays Primary 2/1 were learning all about lines of symmetry. They started by completing the other half of symmetrical pictures using mirrors to help them:

Next, the children worked with a partner to take turns creating symmetrical patterns with objects from the Maths trolley:

Wind Turbines

P6b created their own wind turbines. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a lot of wind outside to help them move but they looked great and they’ve taken them home to use when there is more wind.

Growing the Grinch’s Heart

P6b grew the Grinch’s heart using chemistry and imagination. They created a chemical reaction in the form of creating gas. This has blew the balloon up and thus “grew the Grinch’s heart”. We were lacking green balloons but we used our imaginations and it didn’t stop us learning or having fun!

Starting School August 2022 – Hillington Primary’s Annual Teddy Bears Picnic

Unfortunately our annual Teddy Bears Picnic for Pre-Entrants has been cancelled this year but we are still very excited about all of our new Primary 1’s starting with us at Hillington Primary  in August 2022. We have put together a short video about starting school for you to share with your child. This is a super opportunity for you to have your very own Teddy Bears Picnic at home. Encourage your child to gather up their teddies and settle down to story time with Winston and Waffle. Enjoy!

Please member to enrol your child online if you have not already done so. Enrolment information is available on the Pre-Entrant section of out website.

PRIMARY 1 BOOKBUG FAMILY BAG – IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR FAMILIES

Dear Families,

Each November Bookbug gives every Primary 1 pupil in Scotland a free bag of books and resources to inspire a lifelong love of reading, writing and counting. The Bookbug Primary 1 Family Bag contains the three shortlisted titles for The Bookbug Picture Book Prize. Children across Scotland can vote for their favourite, and the winner will be announced in January 2022. Gifting P1 Bags in a special way builds the excitement for pupils and is a great way to build on your home and school partnership work.

Research has shown that if books and materials are explored in school first, children and parents are far more likely to use them together at home. This is because children are familiar with and excited by the materials. Your child’s class teacher has already explored the contents of the bags with their classes.

Today each Primary 1 pupils will bring their Bookbug Primary 1 Family Bag home. This is for them to keep at home and explore with you. More information about the programme and how to use the bags at home can be found within the bags and on the Scottish Book Trust’s website –

https://www.scottishbooktrust.com/reading-and-stories/bookbug/gifting-the-bookbug-primary-1-family-bags

We hope you enjoying sharing and exploring the bag with your child.
