MYTHS AND MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT THE CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD

Click on the link below to access a breaks down of some of the common myths and misconceptions about children’s rights. As an international legal document, the Convention on the Rights of the Child (the Convention or CRC) may sometimes seem complex and difficult to interpret in practice. This can lead to misunderstandings about what each right means and how the Convention applies in the real world. While we want the Convention to be accessible to everyone, it is important not to oversimplify it. The link below seeks to deepen your understanding of the Convention by clarifying common misconceptions that can arise.

Rights Respecting Schools

“Children have the right to be loved. Children have the right to make mistakes. With rights come responsibilities.”

We are becoming a Unicef UK Rights Respecting School!

Hllington Primary aims to be a school where children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture, to improve well-being and to develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential.  As part of this plan we are working towards recognition as a ‘Rights Respecting School’, an award given to schools on behalf of Unicef UK.

Unicef is the world’s leading organisation working for children and young people and their rights. In 1989, governments across the world agreed that all children have the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their potential.

Hillington Primary pupils are already learning about their rights and will continue to do so through the Rights Respecting School Programme by putting them into practice every day. A Rights Respecting School models rights and respect in all its relationships.

We really hope that you will be able to support our school on our journey towards becoming a Unicef UK Rights Respecting School. It would be great if you could spend a few minutes reading through our questions & answers on the back of this letter. You can find out more about the Convention on the Rights of the Child by visiting https://www.unicef.org.uk/what-we-do/un-convention-child-rights/

Every Wednesday, P5/4 have been working with Jack (a football coach from Rangers Football Club). For the first hour they play fun games and football followed up by a discussion about healthy eating.
Here are a few photographs of the children in action.

P5/4 visit to Kelvingrove Museum

P5/4 thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum to learn more about Ancient Egypt. They were fascinated by the many artefacts from that time period and learnt a lot from Lesley and May.
What do you think the Ancient Egyptians put inside the jars? (See below)
