PRIMARY 2 & PRIMARY 3 READ WRITE COUNT BAGS – IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR FAMILIES

Dear Families,

Today we will be launching the Scottish Book Trusts – Read, Write Count Bags at Hillington Primary. The Read, Write, Count programme gifts bags to all Primary 2 and Primary 3 children in Scotland. The bags are a great opportunity to build relationships with parents and strengthen links between home and school learning. The contents for each bag change on a yearly basis and include two picture books, educational toys and a notebook.

Research has shown that if books and materials are explored in school first, children and parents are far more likely to use them together at home. This is because children are familiar with and excited by the materials. Your child’s class teacher has already explored the contents of the bags with their classes.

Today each Primary 2 and 3 pupil will bring a Read, Write Count bag home with them. This is for them to keep at home and explore with you. The aim of Read, Write, Count is to encourage families to include reading, writing and counting activities in their everyday lives. More information about the programme and how to use the bags at home can be found within the bags and on the Scottish Book Trust’s website –

We hope you enjoying sharing and exploring the bag with your child.
