ACHIEVING NURTURING KIND SAFE

P5a Maths Thursday 14th January 2021

Good morning, P5. Today we are continuing with our learning on perimeter. Remember, perimeter is the distance around a 2D shape. To calculate the perimeter of a shape, you add up the lengths of all the sides. Don’t forget to use the correct unit of measurement.

The Rubies and The Sapphires will be working on the same task. If you are in these groups, you will need a ruler for question 2, as you are no longer given the measurements. You will need to use a ruler and carefully hold it up to the screen to measure the length of the sides of the shapes. Remember, you don’t always need to measure every side, as many of the shapes shown will have equal sides. For example, with the square, you will only need to measure 1 side and then multiply this by 4, as all sides are equal. Your challenge is then to find 4 objects at home and estimate the perimeter of each. We worked on estimating on Monday, so if you need a recap on this you can go back and look at our work from that day. Then, you need to pick a suitable measuring device and accurately calculate the perimeter.

The Emeralds will be working on a different task. Today, you will not be using the grid lines/squares to help you find the perimeter. You should add up the lengths of each side of the shape shown to calculate the perimeter.

If you get this finished before the time given, feel free to practise your times tables or access Sumdog or TopMarks.

If you have any questions, let me know. Enjoy!
