Good morning, P5! Today is our final day working on area and perimeter. All groups are working on tasks which involve questions where you are asked to calculate the area and the perimeter. This is a good way to see if you can remember the difference between perimeter and area and if you can know how to calculate both.
The Rubies and Sapphires are working on a match up activity. You will need to use your problem-solving skills for this and your knowledge of calculating the area of compound shapes from yesterday’s maths lesson. You are being asked to match the questions up with the answers inside the bubbles. You can just write these out on paper. Sometimes you will have to work backwards, as you might be given the area of a shape and just the breadth, and you are asked to work out the missing length. Remember to find the area of a shape we multiply the length by the breadth, so you would need to work out what you multiply the given breadth by to get the area they have provided.
The Emeralds will be working on a different sheet. You will be calculating the perimeter and area of rectangles. Remember to find the perimeter, we add up all of the lengths around the outside as we want to know the distance around the shape, and to find the area, we multiply the length by the breadth as we want to work out the space inside the shape.
