ACHIEVING NURTURING KIND SAFE

P5a Tuesday 19th January 2021 – Maths

Good morning! We are continuing with our learning on area today. We won’t always have grid lines or squares when calculating the area of a shape, and there is a quicker way than counting every square! To find the area of a shape we multiply the length by the breadth. Please watch the PowerPoint and answer the questions as you go. Then, come back to Teams to find your group’s tasks for today.

Area using formula a=lxb p5a

The Rubies and Sapphires have 2 tasks to complete. These are attached below in separate files (task 1 and task 2). In task 1, you will see a grid behind the shapes. Use these to help you calculate the area, by counting how many squares are covered, or by multiplying the length and breadth. Then, in task 2, you no longer have the grid/squares so you will need to multiply the measurements given for the length and breadth to find the area. Remember your unit of measurement is cm2.

Rubies Sapphires Task 1 Tuesday

The Emeralds will be using the grid lines to help find the area of the shapes. Please write the area of each shape shown, by counting the squares. Remember if half of a square is shaded, we count this is 0.5cm2. Your challenge is then to draw a shape with an area of 10cm2.
