ACHIEVING NURTURING KIND SAFE

Children’ Mental Health Week 2019

This week is Children’s Mental Health Week. At assemblies on Monday (04.02.19), we will looking at the importance of keeping our minds healthy. The aims of the assemblies, which have been differentiated to suit the lower and upper primary, are outlined below:

  • to understand that in order to be healthy we have to look after both our bodies and our minds
  • to recognise that our bodies and are minds are connected so food, being active and sleep help our minds as well as our bodies
  • to explore what it means to be healthy inside and out and plan some ways we can look after our bodies and our minds.

When we take steps to be Healthy: Inside and Out, it helps us to feel better in ourselves, focus on what we want to do and deal with difficult times.

At Hillington Primary we are taking many steps to ensure the young people we work with are healthy inside and out. These include:

  • implementing a HWB curriculum that reinforces the importance of being healthy inside and out
  • regularly updating our HWB curriculum to ensure we are meeting the needs our all learners
  • Rookie Minds counselling service
  • as adults always being their to listen to and act on the concerns of the young people we work with
  • ‘worry boxes’ in classes for pupils to share their worries and concerns with adults they trust and respect

Lauren our Rookie Minds counsellor will visit each class on this week to remind them about our in school counselling service and how the children can access the Rookie Minds Drop In. You can find out more our our counselling service by clicking on the link below.
