The Summer months are the perfect time to review some of the joyful events we’ve held in the library recently, as a school community.
In June we had our Family Celebration event to reward and say thank you to our S3 Duke of Edinburgh Volunteers, our wonderful S1/2 helpers, Readers of the Month, AND their parents. This event was held after school and was attended by over 50 young people, parents/ carers, younger siblings, teachers and librarian, and the mood was CELEBRATION! We all enjoyed the fruit snacks prepared by Zurie and Angel, the teas and coffees supplied by Ms Divers, the toys and games for younger children, not forgetting the most important thing of all – Reading – sharing our love of books together, and the important role of families in encouraging love of reading.

Our Reading Schools Family Celebration event

Hosting this event, and having our wonderful families take the time to come and celebrate reading in the Library was one of the highlights of my entire 8 years at Holyrood. It was also one of our Reading Schools activities, a project which has been hugely enjoyable, encouraging us to come together as a school to promote and celebrate reading.

Our Book Group – Chapter Chats also ended the year in style, reading our favourite poems together, being inspired by watching author videos, doing henna art, and eating chocolate cake. Some of us chose a personal reading challenge for over the Summer – mine is to read the BookTok sensation ‘Shatter Me’ – something a bit different, but I’m enjoying it so far. We’re hoping to have a Chapter Chats meeting over the Summer, either online or at Govanhill Library.

Please keep reading over the Summer, and come back ready to have even more fun in the Library next year! Remember that anyone up to the age of 12 (and anyone just finished S1 too), can take part in the ‘Story Garden’ Summer Reading Challenge at your local library.

Happy holidays 😊x

Welcome back to school Eastbank ! It has been a lonely library without you all. Can you believe our library actually looks this big? Isn’t it weird looking at it without any pupils in?

But what if your best friend starts doing things they shouldn’t really be doing? And it’s serious. Combined with trouble at home, the Final Year is a great read and one you can identify with concerning your first year at a new school.
What an amazing reader request has just come in to Eastbank. The graphic novel of Unfamiliar and it’s follow up have arrived. An adorable wee witch – Planchette – moves into a haunted house together with her familiar Marlow. Not a problem for a witch you’d think ! But a bargain haunted house throws up some funny problems for the young witch and her familiar. A cosy read about insiders, outsiders and all those in-between, there’s not much you can’t love about Unfamiliar. Ask Mrs Marshall to reserve both copies if you want double the fun.

Remember, the library is free and you can borrow books for 2 weeks, or longer if you need more time to read the books you have. Stuck for an idea what to read? Why not check out our display of new books? This table is where you find a selection of new books covering all subjects.
