Keeping Children Safe

If any parent/carer has any concerns about child wellbeing or safety or would like further information, they should speak to Mrs Wilson, Head Teacher who is our Child Protection Co-ordinator or Mrs Imrie, Mrs McKay or Mrs Flanagan who are our Depute Child Protection Co-ordinators.

All educational establishments and services must take positive steps to help children protect themselves by ensuring that programmes of health and personal safety are central to the curriculum and should have in place a curriculum that ensures that children have a clear understanding of the difference between appropriate and inappropriate behaviour on the part of another person, no matter who.

As with other areas of the curriculum, you will be kept informed of the health and personal safety programme for your child’s establishment.

Educational establishments and services must create and maintain a positive ethos and climate which actively promotes child welfare and a safe environment by:

  • ensuring that children are respected and listened to;
  • ensuring that programmes of health and personal safety are central to the curriculum;
  • ensuring that staff are aware of child protection issues and procedures;
  • establishing and maintaining close working relationships and arrangements with all other agencies to make sure that professionals collaborate effectively in protecting children.

Should any member of staff have concerns regarding the welfare or safety of any child they must report these concerns to the Head of Establishment or the person deputising for the head of establishment.  They, after judging that there may be grounds for concern regarding the welfare or safety of any child must then immediately advise the duty Senior Social Worker at the local Social Work Services area office of the circumstances.

Entering School Premises

Our School has a security entrance system.  Please press the office button at the main entrance and wait patiently to be let in securely.

No parents should be in the playground in the morning (other than to drop children off at Breakfast Club).  A member of staff will be out at the school gate from 8.45am each morning.

Parents are asked not to wait in the playground at the end of the school day.  Parents of Primary 1 pupils can come into the playground but are asked to stay back near the railings so that staff can clearly see the pupils they are dismissing. All families are politely asked to respect the road markings outside and near the school as the roads can become extremely congested at bell times.

Health: Parents are asked to complete data check forms at the beginning of each session.  These contact important medical information and it is essential that these are kept up-to-date.  Please get in touch with the school office if any information relating to your child changes.  Any medication that your child requires in school should be labelled clearly and handed in to the school office.  All staff are made aware of allergies that children throughout the school have.  Battlefield is a nut-free school and no child should be given snacks for play time or lunch that may contain nuts.

Trips: All school trips and activities outwith regular classroom learning are risk assessed.  If you have any concerns about the safety of your child please do not hesitate to get in touch with a member of our School Leadership Team.
