Week beginning 14.06.21

Hello everyone,

We have had another super fun week this week, we have played outdoors in the lovely weather and even had time to jump in muddy puddles! We got into our wet suits and wellies for the rainy day and had so much fun rolling down the muddy hill, jumping in puddles and making some mud pies!

We have also been on a shape hunt round the different areas of the school and spotted different shapes including squares, circles and rectangles!

Also, using chalk we were using chalk to write our CVC words and our numbers to 20 on the ground. We love playing with chalk and being able to draw different pictures too!

Fun Learning!

Last week Primary 1 had a super fun and busy week.

In maths, we were learning all about weight and how heavy and light objects are. We explored this in the classroom by finding an object and deciding if it was heavy or light. We worked with a partner and held both objects to see who had the heavier/lighter one!

We got the chance to use some very cool scales to weigh different toys from the classroom. This was so much fun and we worked together in a group to do this.

We also learned how to fix sentences which never had any capital letters or full stops! We had to make each letter at the start of the sentence a capital and we added full stops to the end.

We had lots of fun playing outside where we played team games on the MUGA and some races. We remembered to go to the back once we had ran and to sit down, the first team all sitting down were the winners. This was lots of fun but it was a super hot day so we also had to take lots of rests and drank plenty of water.

Primary 1 have been having lots of fun over the last few weeks.

We have been very busy learning about lots of things. This term, our topic is Growing and Living and we were so lucky to have duck eggs in our school. When they hatched, we were able to feel the ducklings and how soft they were! We also took them swimming and watched them having lots of fun, they even splashed some of us! As a class, we were learning all about the duck life cycle and it was amazing to see the little ducklings in their cage with each other. The first one born was called Albert – he is much lighter in colour and we loved to watch him have a swim! We used what we learned about the duck life cycle to write some sentences about this and remembered to use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces in our writing,

In numeracy,  we have been learning about money and being able to recognise the different coins from 1p to £2. We have been talking about the shape and colours of them. We have also been playing games on the smart board for sorting two coins into two different groups.  We are also learning about measure and have been looking at different items in the class and have used some cubs to measure them. Also, we have been comparing the sizes of different leaves in our groups and putting them in order from smallest to biggest.

In science,  we carried out a very exciting “dancing beans” experiment as we have recently planted some tomato seeds in our plant pots. We have just started to read “Jack and the Beanstalk” and found it very fun to use some of our own magic beans in an experiment. It was so much fun watching the beans dance around in the cup. We were able to explain why they danced in fizzy water but not in still water.

Here are some pictures below of some of our learning that we have done over the last few weeks!

Fun Learning in P1B with Miss Quinn😃

Hello everyone!

We have had a super fun week doing lots of different activities both inside and outside with Miss Quinn😁!

This week we have been learning lots about seasons. We took our learning outside where we worked in teams to make some homes for hedgehogs. Together, we read a book all about hedgehogs which taught us about hibernation. Outside, we gathered leaves and sticks and bundled them together to create homes for the hedgehogs🦔.

This week we also learned a new sound ‘e’ and learned lots of words beginning with this sound. With Miss Quinn, we used paper plates to make our own elephants🐘. For this task we used scissors to cut out the face, ears and trunk from the paper plate and used glue to stick them together. The last step was to stick on some googly eyes using glue ✂️✏️🖍 We used a variety of coloured pens and pencils to colour in our elephant. We had lots of fun doing this and enjoyed showing our elephants to each other once they were finished, it was great seeing them all look so different!

After learning the letter e and writing it on our whiteboards, we went outside to use chalk to practise writing it on the ground.

Every morning we always practise writing the letters that we have learned previously. Here are some pictures of us showing off our letter formations including s, a, t, p, i, n, c, k and e.

This week we also made our own Autumn tree pictures using leaves and sticks. We went outside and collected lots of leaves and sticks to use for our pictures and then we were given a bundle of them as we sat in groups to use. We used a mixture of different coloured leaves. We had to break some sticks to make them smaller to fit onto the paper. This activity linked in with our Seasons topic as we spoke about the colour of the leaves on the trees and how they change as we approach Autumn🍁🌳.

In Maths we have been learning about time, specifically day and night. We spoke about our daily routine on a school day and used some pictures to sequence the day. We learned about shadows and went outside and used chalk to draw round shadows that we found on the ground. Some of us wanted to draw round Miss Quinn and each other😃 Later on, we went back outside to notice how the shadows have moved☀️.

Important updates and information for this week- Please read!

Dear parents,

This week week is our Macmillan Fundraising week, please read below for all the exciting things happening in the school!

Funday Thursday!

Children can come to school on Thursday wearing their pyjamas, wearing their own clothes (non-uniform) or sporting a crazy hairdo! If they would like to bring a small donation of £1 to participate, that would be fabulous.

Virtual Coffee Morning

On Thursday, Mrs McFadden will host a Virtual Coffee Morning via Zoom at 10am. At said event, there will be a raffle taking place with lots of good prizes available; food vouchers, chocolates, vouchers for local businesses etc. Raffles are £1 per strip and I’ll start collecting money tomorrow. If you want to be in with the chance of winning, can you please send your child with money to school tomorrow or Wednesday before the grand reveal!

If you’d like to donate a prize for the raffle – please feel free to email myself or Mrs McFadden; gw13mcfaddenkatherin@glow.ea.glasgow.sch.uk

Mrs McFadden will send a Zoom link for those interested in attending on Wednesday.

DOUGHNUTS!

We will be selling doughnuts on Thursday morning at playtimes and lunchtimes to raise some more cash for MacMillan! Please send your child with money if they wish to buy some! 🍩

Family Fun – Sponsored walks!

If your family would like to organise and participate in a sponsored walk, I can send home a Sponsor Sheet for you to record the donations you’ve collected. Unfortunately, because of restrictions, we cannot arrange a bigger community event where we could involve all of our families participating at the same time – so we will leave it with you to decide if that’s something you wish to get involved in! For example, a local hill walk to Conic Hill, Ben A’an or The Whangie!

Thanks

Miss Bull

Welcome to P1B!

Hello everyone!

Welcome to the P1 class blog! Thank you for responding to our calls regarding your contact details and photo consent – our blog will now be updated weekly with details and photos of our learning and any new information.

What a fantastic start to the term! The children have been busy making new friends and catching up with old friends from nursery that they missed so much! We have been so proud of how well they have settled into their new environment.

We have been learning how to follow our class and school rules and who to ask for help. We have been learning how to cooperate and work as team.

We have been learning how to look after ourselves and others by washing our hands, changing our shoes and putting on our jackets. We even learned how to put on our waterproof suits and wellies so that we could explore the outdoor area and jump in muddy puddles! We went on a treasure hunt to find different things in the outdoor environment – have you seen all our new super cool murals?!

We have been learning a lot about each other and ourselves through our ‘All about Me’ Topic. Painting self portraits, measuring each other, labelling parts of the body and talking about what makes us unique.

We have been looking at patterns, patterns in the classroom and and patterns outside. We have been using concrete objects to create our own repeating patterns!

We have been learning to recognise and order numbers 0-10.

In Literacy we have been learning how to recognise rhyming words and how to continue a rhyming string. We have also started learning our Jolly Phonics sounds! This week we are learning the sounds ‘s’ and ‘a’.

Check out the next blog for our Termly Overview Map which will explain everything we are learning about this term!

Thank you!

Miss Bull
