20 sleeps for Christmas Day😄

Hello everyone,

class 1 had a great week with a lot of fun and creativity!!

We started our week by celebrating St Andrews Day! We decorated thistles and we made tartan skirts. We talked about St Andrews life and at the end, we baked shortbreads🙂 they were delicious ☺️☺️
Have a wee look of our day…

Later this week we read the story of the Nutcracker and we used adjectives and nouns to describe him. Of course, it was time for our Christmas tree. We were so excited, we took out all the decorations and we started putting up ornaments and Christmas toys. We also practised our phonics and our reading skills by making Christmas trees with baubles that have letters on.

Finally, Class1 practised the whole week our Christmas song. Sorley and Mr McCormack helped a lot our class with musical instruments. All of them put so much effort and had a great time🙂

Have a lovely weekend, boys and girls!!

Puppet Show

Hello,

Class 1 had a lovely week with new experiences and fun!!

We celebrated “Book Week” and, in line with our topic, we worked with Pinocchio!! We enjoyed the story and we learned a lot about puppets and the different materials that can e made of. We stated with the sock puppets; the kids chose their sock and they decorated them using their imagination.  Marionettes were the next puppet we explored. We found out that we have to use our fingers and strings in order to move these puppets. The kids had the opportunity to gain the experience of Shadow Puppetry and set up their own Puppet Shadow play using the characters from the Pinocchio story.

In maths, we started working with money. This week we focused on identifying coins up to 20p/50p and £2. The kids worked really hard and next week we will set up our own Toy shop! In Literacy, we worked with the sound “n” and “ie” as well as blending sounds in order to read cvc/ccvc words.

Have a look 🙂

Welcome to our Toy world!! (its just the beginning)

Hello!!

The last 2 weeks, class 1 is working really hard with our IDL topic, History of Toys.

During the first week, we explored the fantasy world of Toy Story and we learnt lots of stuff about our favourite characters, Woody and Buzz. We also tried to make our own Mr Potate Head and I believe that we did it great!!!   In literacy, we practised the sound ” T for toys”  by making crafts, printing the sound and plying lots of active games. We also made a missing poster of our favourite toy by writing a small description of that. In science, we talked about different materials and we checked by which material our favourite toys are made of.

In week 2, we gave emphasis on old and new toys by sharing experiences about my childhood and the toys I was playing with when I was in their age. We learnt about the differences between old and toys focusing on the materials that they were made of. I introduced to the kids the old game ” cups and ball” and we made our own toys. We tried many many many times to throw the ball into the cup, at the end we made it!!! During this week, we learnt about the printing method and Andy Warhol. The kids made amazing printings inspired by him. Finally in maths, we focused on numbers bonds to 5 (Mariam, Abdul, Muhsin), 10 (Joshua, Diego), 20( Murray), on place value- tens and units- (Sorley, Zainab) as well as on comparing groups of toys using the words “more” and “less”.

Check all our amazing work and of course the lovely toys the kids built up in their free time.

PS: I promise that next time I will upload more photos !!

Halloween 🎃 👻

Hello!!

Class 1 has had lots for fun this week with lots of different Halloween themed activities.

In maths this week we have been learning about to count up to 20/30. For our maths topic we have started to learn about 2D/ 3D shapes. Ask us to see if we remember any of the names of these shapes. We have also practised sharing in two groups using pumpkin seeds.

We have continued to learn our sounds. This week we have been focused on the sound p for pumpkin. Sorley worked hard with his writing this week giving a lovely description of the witch by adding wow adjectives.

Check our video for all the amazing learning and experience 😊

Class 1 celebrates Black History Month

The month of October is Black History month in the uk , and Class 1 had the chance to celebrate and explore black history and important figures, as well as the culture and heritage of Africa.

Class 1 met Rocket and her brother Jamal and they traveled to space!! This book is written by Nathan Bryon and kids really loved it!! We built up our own rocket and we made ourselves astronauts. We also practised with the letter  “a” for astronaut and we made a lovely craft 😃

We spoke about Rosa Parks and the idea of “fairness” . Using drama we tried to act out the scene from the bus and we found out that some people were treated unfairly because they were different. We also talked about Martin Luther king and we watched a part of his famous speech. After that we drew our own “ dreams” and we made hand prints creating a wreath.

Finally , we explored the culture of Africa. We  learned that in Africa they use masks for special occasions; so we used paper plates and feathers and we designed and decorated own masks. Also, we listened reggae music and we made our own maracas using plastic bottles and lentils. We had great time!! 😃😃
