This week we created our own songs about slavery.  Miss O’Donnell gave us the option to either create a rap or a song. We could use songs which we knew such as Shotgun or create our own beat and tunes. This was fantastic as we had the freedom to play around with instruments  and work with people we don’t usually work with. We also go to put peoples talents to good use, as Rabia was able to show of her incredible beatboxing skills 🤪 

In maths this week we focused on fractions as well as applying our previously learned knowledge. Three stations were based on fractions, and two were based on things we had already learned, as well as having an iPad station  were we were able to access Sumdog.

On Thursday we had a visit from Rangers football club. They were in to talk to us about racism and sectarianism. We talked about how appearance should not play a role in the job you want in the future, and how we should not judge anybody!!!

Finally primary 7 wish miss Hunter all the best in her new married life. We loved celebrating with her on Wednesday

This week was a busy week with a visit to holyrood and a trip to the emirates arena, as well as fun filled literacy and maths activities.

This week in literacy we focused on poetry, looking at the theme of freedom. This was very interesting as we got to create a poem based on what we think it is like to be free. Additionally, we had a visit from Ben the storyteller. He told us a  very interesting story about freedom and power  and what it would be like if we had our freedom taken away.

On Tuesday 8 primary 7,s ( Aaron, Hamza, Saad, Rayan, Malaika, Raeesah, Rabab and Rabia) represented St alberts in an athletics competition in the Emirates arena. Well done to all who took park, especially Rabab for her super speed!

On Wednesday we were invited to Holyrood to attend an event run by the sixth year sports leaders. Here we learned 6 traditionally Scottish dances. This was a fun experience as we were able to chat to other children from difference to schools.

We had a busy week celebrating Robert Burns.

Everyday  we practiced Tam O’Shanter with our class teacher and Mr Mcormack. This was an excited experience, however, was challenging as we had to help create a soundtrack and a rhythm to go with the poem. Additionally this week we practised for the athletics competition. This involved sprinting and hurdles.
Furthermore,  Zayd, Rayan, Saad and Hamza from p7 and  Zoha, Mashael and Safa represented the school in a football competition. The boys won two games and drew one. The girls won all matches apart from one! Well done everyone who took part. Lastly, we had Ben the storyteller visit our class to talk about slavery and freedom. This was exciting and something we are looking forward to continue over the next couple of weeks. 

Welcome back to P7’s blog. We hoped you had a relaxing two weeks off because we have big plans for this year!!

Monday:

On Monday we welcomed everybody back into class and then got straight into our work. Firstly we completed our guided reading with Miss O’Donnell. After break Miss told us told us that we would be learning about fractions, decimals and percentages within maths. After lunch we were introduced to our new topic- SLAVERY. We are looking forward to learning about slavery around the world and in Glasgow.

Tuesday:

On Tuesday we continued with guided reading and learned what the word slavery meant and what we associate with slavery. Mr McCormack also visited our class on Tuesday to help us with our performance of Tam O’Shanter .   

Wednesday 

In the morning we had Mrs Sheridan for maths. During this time we learned about long multiplication. This was very helpful. Additionally, on Wednesday we had pe. This month we are practicing for an athletics competition.  In pe we practiced hurdles and running as a team. This was very tiring but enjoyable.

Thursday 

On Thursday  we went to holyrood as part of our introduction to first year. This session was a science based. We were introduced to eight science teachers. We learned about our optic nerve and our retina. We also made a box, where we could see rainbow colours because of the reflection of the light. This was an exciting and fun experience which has made everyone look forward to science in high school

Over the last two weeks we have been learning about WW2. We visited People’s Palace. Here we learned about  what it was like to be evacuated during the war and have to live in an Anderson shelter. We also learned about rationing, and how only a small amount of food was available to feed different sizes of families. 
we also learned about adult and children’s gas masks and what children had in their evacuation suitcase. Children were only allowed the essential necessities in their suitcase. Additionally, we learned about the role of woman in the war.

On Friday we visited Scotland street museum. Here we  stepped back in time to 1884.This was a great experience as we witnessed what it was like to go to school during the Victorian era. The classroom and the teacher was very different to our teachers at St Alberts as the teacher was scary and extremely strict!!!!

Hello P7 blog readers, as you can see we never posted last week as we have been mega busy working hard on our projects, including our science lessons and our WW2 topic. So as you will see we have had a busy couple of weeks.

Topic-  Some of our class worked on a podcast with Mr McCormack. This involved telling Mr McCormack what we had learned about WW2 and Force K6.  While this was happening, the rest of the class created  posters advertising St Alberts radio show (STARS) which will be on Sunny Govan. In our Topic we learned about Isobel Harling and Naik Gian Singh who both showed acts of bravery and kindness during WW2.  This week we also got our new iPads (YEAHHHH) This meant we could up level our digital learning skills by researching facts about WW2. We also visited Scotland Street museum. This was a great trip as we  learned about WW” but also learned more about each other, through games and questions.

Science- Im a Scientist Get me Out of Here, is a programme for primary children to experience the life of a scientist and vote on who  they think has the best research project.  We got to carry out two experiments and have a live chat with the scientists. One experiment was based on the digestive system and the other was an electric circuit. This was fun as we learned  how to direct and re direct energy to power a small Lego car.

PE- Over the weeks

we have been working on our overall fitness. We having completed many different circuits. This involved, sit ups, running, hula hooping, star jumps and bench kicks.

Monday:

We learned about the British Indian Army, specifically Force K6 and the role they played in World War 2

Tuesday:

We  waked to Scotland Street museum  to find out further information about World War 2 . We also found out more information about each other and how people got jobs when they first came to Scotland. This was very interesting and fun.

Wednesday:

We decided that we were going to make two podcasts, one based around Christmas and other based on WW2.  Mr McCormack taught us how to play Samba music. This involved us using different instruments and trying to find the correct pulse and beat.

Thursday:

Free flow with Mrs Brightman. This involved 7 stations- Science, art, cooking, drama, music  literacy, numeracy and research . This was fun.

• In maths  we are going to be  learning about shape and money.
• In literacy we are focusing on instructional and creative writing , as well as enhancing our reading skills.

Highlights of the week

• Looking at money used in the war.
• Learning  about the features of instructional writing- creating instruction on how best to annoy students and pupils.
• Free flow with Mrs Brightman
• Creating fairy lights for our class.

Our 4 day week was exciting, tiring and rather cold!, but we loved learning outside.

• Guided reading in the outdoor classroom.
• Data handling- bar graphs and pie charts in the upper playground
• Drama- how to deal with stress

Wednesday –  Geocaching at pollok park

Thursday

• Roasted Marshmallows, made hot chocolate, roasted potatoes and made smores.
• Sang around the campfire and told stories.
• 

This week has been so busy, as we have had to arrange the Coffee Morning. This was stressful and tiring as we had to sort all the raffle and tombola prizes as well as sell raffle tickets to children and teachers in the school.  We also made our own cakes in class on Thursday with Mrs Brightman.

Our highlights of the week, apart from our amazing coffee morning were:

• Debating whether children should have the opportunity to use technology.
• Basketball game in PE
• Pictograms with Miss Cohen
