Solar Energy ☀️☀️

Hey troops, what a beautiful day to feel happy. 😀😀

Seeing the sun shining today has made me think about the energy we get from the sun. I have solar panels on the roof of my house which produce electricity and I have dug up my front garden to put solar lights in with stones. During the day, these lights take in the light from the sun and then when it is dark, they light up using the light they have taken in during the day so no electricity is used.  I love solar lights because they are good for the environment.

I started reading about solar energy this morning and came across this excellent lesson on BBC Bitesize.  It explains what solar energy is, what it is used for, how it works and how it turns into electricity. Follow the link below, have a read and watch the short clip. I learned a few new things from this. Write down anything new you have learned and send me it via email or WhatsApp.  Try the quiz at the bottom of the lesson too and let me know how you got on.

Games – Miss Cohen has made another fun video on the St Albert’s p4-7 YouTube channel to teach you how to play the game Yahtzee. Follow the link to see the video and then have a go at the game with someone.  Here is an example of the score sheet too. If you have a garden or a veranda, you could play there as it is such a gorgeous day.

Have a great day everyone, hope you can comment or email and let me know what you’re up to. 😊❤️ Remember, stay in touch and contact me if you need anything.

Guided Reading (Holes), IDL and Science 🤩🤩

Good morning guys, I hope you’re all feeling fantastic today. 💜💜

Take a look at the previous blog post to see what some of your friends have been doing over the past week. I’m very proud of you all for trying to do some of the work. Remember, there’s no pressure to do everything in your pack or to do every task that is set on the blog but please try and keep your brain active by doing some activities.

Literacy – Here is your guided reading for this week. It’s from the book Holes by Louis Sachar which was one of my FAVOURITE books when I was at secondary school. We studied this book in my English class and I loved it so much. The themes of the book are consequences, punishment, justice and friendship.

Miss Webster has read the chapter and the questions for you on our YouTube channel. Here is the link – https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBjqn03lZYc-6pCjJPIRqwg?view_as=subscriber

You can send me your answers to the questions via email or WhatsApp. Enjoy and let us know if you enjoyed the chapter because Miss Webster said she would love to read more of the book for you on YouTube.

IDL – Just a reminder if you could do task 2 for our topic.  Let me know what you already know about the Coronavirus and then what you want to know.

You might want to know about the cause of Coronavirus, where it started, what is happening in our country, what is happening in other countries, or is there a vaccine to cure the virus? These are just some examples but you tell me what you want to know and then send me a picture of your thoughts please. You don’t need to set it out like it is below. It could be a few bullet points.

Science – Check out this cool science resource which is all about the Earth. Firstly, watch the TedTalk which is 54 seconds.  This is an introduction to the project. Then, scroll down and you will find lots of different lessons. You can choose which ones you want to watch. Try and write down 5 to 10 things you have learned from each lesson you take part in and send me these please. These resources are great so I know you’ll have fun engaging with them.  I’ve posted screenshots below to show you what it will look like when you’re on the site.  Follow the link –

Have a great day everyone. The sun is shining so try and get out for some fresh air and sunshine. ☀🚶🏻‍♀️ I’ve started a challenge with my friends that we all need to walk at least 10,000 steps every day.  If someone doesn’t do it, they need to video themselves doing a forfeit like doing 50 squats or press ups, so I’m making sure I’m getting out a long walk today to get my steps in cause I don’t want to do the punishment. 🤣🤣 I will let you know how I get on each day with it.

Here’s a funny picture to let you know I’m missing you 🤣😊

Some of your work 👏🏼🤩

Thanks to those of you who have sent me over work this week and well done to everyone who has done some work. I know it’s very different from being in school and hard to concentrate at home sometimes so thank you for trying to do the work. 😀😀 If you have missed some of the tasks, scroll back on the blog and complete them. You can send me pictures of your work via email – gw17mccuecatherine@glow.ea.glasgow.sch.uk

Auzair, thank you for your efforts. 👏🏼👏🏼 Here is Auzair’s maths, reading and digital learning work.

Zaynab has used her imagination to write a creative piece based on the task from yesterday. I love this Zaynab and can’t wait to see what happens next in the story.

Zaynab also completed the guided reading questions based on mental health last week. If you’ve not completed them yet, you can scroll down on the blog and find them.

Zain has been working hard too and completing tasks from the pack I dropped off to him. Well done Zain for all your hard work and well done for rocking that onesie 😍😍

I’m sure lots of you have been busy doing some of the work I have set for you. Send me over pictures of your work and I can put it on the blog for your friends and other teachers to see. You can send me pictures of what you’ve been doing too, like when you’re out a walk or if you’ve been reading or cooking etc.

Monday – Maths, Literacy and IDL.

Good morning guys, how are you feeling today?
Try some of these activities today and send me your work please. Remember you can send me pictures from your daily walk too or anything else you’ve been up to.  I can share them on our blog so that your friends can see too. 😊😊

Maths – revision of telling the time. The language of telling the time can be quite tricky so make sure you are telling people the time every day and ask them if you are saying it correctly. Try to use an analog clock and a digital clock. After you’ve done the activities below, why not write out a timetable of your day or what a typical day I’m lockdown looks like for you? Send these to me and we can all share ours and compare our day to our friend’s day.

Literacy – imaginative writing. Try this writing task this week and send me your stories please. Choose a person you live with, choose a place you wish you could visit and come up with a plot to write your own story. This is all the structure I’m going to give you so I want you to use your imagination, be creative and write independently. You can be in the story too! I can’t wait to read them.

IDL – Before we move on with more topic work, can you complete task 1 and 2, which are on previous blogs, and send me your answers please? Let me know what you want to know about Coronavirus too please.

Have a great day everyone 💜💜 If you talk to any of your friends from the class, can you please ask them to come on the blog and comment so that we can all speak to each other?

🌼🌺Friday Feeling🌸🌻

Good morning P6/7. ❤❤

Happy Friday and I hope you’ve all had a fantastic week. I’m so glad that more of you are commenting on the class blog now and we are able to chat to each other. I also LOVED seeing and speaking to some of you yesterday when I delivered your packs.  You’ve all grown so much and got even more beautiful than you were before.  🥰🥰 It made my day to see so many of you, I’m missing you all like mad.

Well done if you’ve been able to do any of the tasks I’ve posted on the blog. Remember to scroll back to previous blogs too as there are lots of activities you might not have done yet. Don’t feel like you need to do all of the tasks, or any of them. Just do what you want to do but it’s important to keep your brain active.

Here is your second Modern Studies task. If you’ve not completed the first one yet, it’s a couple of blogs down so just scroll until you find it. Feel free to email me your work. 🤩🤩

Health and Well-being – Visit the St Albert’s Upper School YouTube channel to hear more from my mental health book. I haven’t set any questions for these but you could take notes and comment them on this blog. I know you’re all excellent at note taking from the work we have done in class. Here is the link –

Why not use some of these strategies below and let me know how you get on?

Remember to take time to rest over the weekend.  Here are some things you could do to relax and feel happy –  go out and get fresh air, get comfy indoors and read a book or listen to music, draw or colour in, play games with your family, cook or clean. There are lots of things you can enjoy, even though we are in lockdown. I’m going to clean my house this weekend because I always feel happy when my house looks and smells immaculate (very clean).

Here are a couple of TikToks I made for my family quiz last night, can you guess the character and which film they are from?
