Friday Debate – Brave, Not Perfect.

Who remembers how to debate? Who loves debating? Who wants to debate on gender equality? Me, me and me!!

Iโ€™ve found this fantastic TEDTalk about teaching girls to take risks and that itโ€™s ok not to be perfect. ย The talk is just over 12 minutes long but has some excellent points throughout it. Here’s the link –

The title of the debate is – Should girls be encouraged to take risks?

I have made this short clip of stepsย  explaining what I want you to do. Have a watch…

Even if you don’t write up a debating argument for this, watch the Ted Talk anyway and take some notes on it. It is very important to all of you. Can you relate to what Reshma is saying? Do you feel like you’re encouraged to take risks but your sister isn’t? Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Here is the link to the BBC Bitesize lesson on debating. We have learned all of this before but watch the clips and read the lesson for a reminder of what a debate is, how to form a debate and how to carry out debating. Knowing how to verbalise (express/say) your opinion is a very useful life skill which you’ll use throughout your education years and for the rest of your life.ย

Have fun with this task, learn new things, form an opinion and be able to justify it.

When we get some of your thoughts on this, we will move on to the debate. I thought it would be good to video yourself debating for your side and send me them then we can upload them to the blog and have a virtual P6/7 debate. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘Œ

Good luck and enjoy,

Thursday – Maths and Modern Studies.

Morning everyone, how are you all? ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

Itโ€™s another glorious day which definitely makes me feel happy. Today, Iโ€™m going to call all of your parents and hope to speak to you on the phone too.

How did you get on with the literacy and maths tasks from yesterday? Thanks to those of you who have sent me pictures of your work and what you have been doing, itโ€™s lovely ย to see your beautiful faces again. ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ

Maths – do you remember the rule for rounding? Have a go at this rounding task and let me know if you remembered how to round whole numbers and how to estimate. ย Think about what the word estimate means and this might help you. Leave a comment if you need some help or a little reminder.

Modern Studies – Itโ€™s a good idea to keep up with what is happening with the Coronavirus by watching the news or reading news online. Remember, everything you read isnโ€™t always true so look out for FAKE NEWS.

Below are some links to clips you can watch and articles you can read about what is currently happening with the Coronavirus and specifically, what Scotland are doing about it and what England are doing about it. ย Use these to help you with todayโ€™s task.

ย The Venn Diagram is there to help you but please draw your own with Scotland being on one side, England being on the other and the overlapping bit in the middle is for things that both Scotland and England are doing the same.

Remember, although Scotland is part of the United Kingdom, we have our own government and they are doing some things differently from the Conservative government.ย

Here are 5 useful videos from Holyrood to tell you some things about the school. I know not all of you are going to Holyrood but it is useful to hear things about any secondary school just now so have a watch and then we can chat about it in the comments on this blog.ย

Here is a virtual tour of Bellahouston too. Have a wee nosey and see what it’s like.

Wonderful Wednesday โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Š

Good morning everyone, I hope youโ€™re all well.

I know a lot of you will be sleeping in later because you are awake later to eat and pray so donโ€™t worry if you donโ€™t see the blog til late afternoon or night time. Please try and leave a comment on the blog when you do see it and let me know how you are and what youโ€™ve been doing. Remember, if youโ€™ve done any school work or any activities you want me to see, you can WhatsApp them to me or you can email me them at

gw17mccuecatherine@glow.ea.glasgow.sch.uk.

Itโ€™s a gorgeous day outside so try and get out for some fresh air today. Here are some things Iโ€™ve been up to – Iโ€™m still doing my minimum of 10,000 steps a day challenge with my friends via WhatsApp and Iโ€™m enjoying it although Iโ€™ve had the fewest steps some days so Iโ€™ve had to do the squats as a forfeit. ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿฅบ. We’ve also been doing work to our front and back garden to make it nicer to sit in and enjoy the lovely weather. Iโ€™ve been taking care of my Auntie Clare too so it has been amazing to spend more time with her. Let me know what youโ€™ve been doing. ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿฅฐ

Literacy – send me over your guided reading answers when you do it this week please. I loved all the articles Miss Cohen chose, they certainly made me feel positive. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ Miss Hewitt has just reminded me of the Some Good News Clips which you will find if you google โ€˜some good news by John Krasinskiโ€™. ย These are clips of positive stories from around the world which are sure to make you feel good. ย Have a go at these grammar questions. Iโ€™m going to do a video and upload it to the St Albertโ€™s P4-7 YouTube channel to remind you what some of this grammarย means so head over there if you need some help.

Maths – Have you still been using your Sumdog account for maths? There are lots of challenges on there for you. Try this revision of whole numbers too and see how you get on.

Check out this short clip from BBC Social. I learned lots from it and really enjoyed it. I think you will enjoy it too and be able to relate to what Sumayyah is saying. This Ramadan is so different from what you are used to and that might feel strange but itโ€™s good to know that many Muslims are feeling the same as you. Leave a comment below and tell me what your Ramadan has been like so far. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08cy7st

I hope you all have a great day. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

Stay safe and have faith that better days are coming,

Guided Reading – Positive News

Good morning P6/7. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

Here are your guided reading activities for this week. The texts are different articles full of positive news which is happening right now. It is very important to look for positive things that are going on in our world all the time, especially right now as the world seems so uncertain due to Coronavirus. ย Hearing about good news usually makes people feel happy so these articles are very welcome during this time. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜Š

ย

You can visit the St Albertโ€™s P4-7 YouTube channel to hear Miss Cohen reading ย all of these articles out. She has also read the questions for you on the YouTube channel too. ย Here is the link –ย

You can send me your answers via email – gw17mccuecatherine@glow.ea.glasgow.sch.uk – or you can WhatsApp me your work.

Have a great day everyone. Xx

Nature ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒณ

Thank you to Zaynab and Eishah who sent me pictures from their time outdoors last week. Don’t worry if you didn’t manage to send me your picture, I know most of you will have enjoyed nature on some of your walks. ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฒ

Zaynab couldn’t decide her favourite so she sent me three pictures. Comment below and tell us which one is your favourite. They are all gorgeous, thanks Zaynab. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š

๏ฟผEishah also sent a beautiful picture and video. Take a look at both and comment which one is your favourite. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š

Enjoying Nature ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ’š

The theme of this week was to be outdoors and enjoy nature. Watch this film the staff at our school have made to inspire you to go outside and get some fresh air. I’m looking forward to seeing all of your pictures from being outside this week. Comment and tell me if you’ve emailed or sent them on WhatsApp so that I know to look out for them.

Enjoy, lots of love to you all. โค๏ธโค๏ธ

Nature Task ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฟ

Good morning P6/7 ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ

Todayโ€™s challenge is to send me a picture you have taken while you’re outdoors. This ย could be from your daily walk, in the park, in your garden or on your veranda. You know I love the colour green so I love being outside surrounded by trees and grass.

Here is a picture I took at Lockerbie which I absolutely love. I love the blueness of the sky and the reflection of the gorgeous trees on the water.

For your task, ask to use an adult’s phone and take a picture of somewhere in nature. You could be in the picture too if you want. Send it to me via email or WhatsApp and tell me where it was taken too. Mr Stewart is going to choose his favourite and then show you it at next week’s assembly which is posted on our school Twitter and Facebook page.

While you’re outside and if you have some chalk, why not try this challenge. You must reach the smiley face in the middle in the fewest moves and you can’t go diagonally. Comment on this blog and let me know if you managed to reach the smiley face.ย

Good luck with your task and have fun during your time spent outdoors. Breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the warm sun on your face. Happy days. ๐Ÿ˜Šโ˜€
