Good morning P5 / 29th April 2020

Hello boys and girls,

How are you all today? I’m feeling a little sad as it is my Mum’s birthday today and I would love to visit her. I usually take a cake and a present and give her a big hug but I’ll just phone her instead and sing happy birthday to her.

Health and  Wellbeing-

As this week we are focusing on our mental wellbeing why not complete the sheet below and share it with someone at home or you can send it to me at my email address and I will write back privately.

Good afternoon P5 / 28th April 2020

Hello everyone,

This week the school are focusing on making sure that everyone is keeping mentally well.  We are now in our 6th week of having to stay at home to make sure we stay safe so it is okay to feel sad, worried or confused about things. The important thing is that we spend time talking to someone in our family about it or you can email me at anytime and I will email you back. Sometimes it helps to keep ourselves distracted. This could be building something, playing an instrument, gardening, art, doing a puzzle, painting, cooking or spending time with a family member. Look at the chart below and check that you are taking care of yourself.

Good afternoon P5 / 24th April 2020

Hello boys and girls,

It’s a scorcher today! I do hope you are able to get out and enjoy the sunshine.

Fun task-

Can you guess the baby? If you go onto primary 1’s blog you will see pictures of the staff as children. Can you guess who is who? There is also a video on the St Albert’s infants YouTube channel with more staff members. Can you guess them all?

Eco Schools-

Why not have a look at the St Albert’s Eco blog page. Miss Brooks has posted links to help you get involved with keeping Scotland beautiful.

Language-

Now that Mrs Brightman has finished reading Fantastic Mr Fox why not have-a-go at creating a book of your own.

  • Think of ideas of possible stories.
  • Choose one of your ideas and plan out the story, thinking about the setting and characters.
  • Write the first draft of your story. Share this with someone in your family to get feedback.
  • Edit your story, ensuring spelling and punctuation are correct.
  • Think about the title, layout, front cover and illustrations of your book. Once you are ready, create your book.

You could post your book on the blog for everyone to share.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Hughes

Fantastic Mr Fox Ch 13-the END!

Two videos today! It was just too long for one video because YouTube only lets me have 15 minutes at a time!

After you’ve listened to the rest of the story, maybe you could write a review? This is where you say if you enjoyed the story. It could be something like this…

‘Fantastic Mr. Fox, by Roald Dahl, is an exciting adventure with brilliant characters. I loved the little foxes who are so brave! I think anyone aged 9-99 would enjoy this book – I give it 5 stars!’

or

‘Personally, I’m not a fan of stories that have animals as characters. I prefer to read about people. Fantastic Mr. Fox is quite a good story about mean people getting what they deserve but it wasn’t my favourite Roald Dahl book. I like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory better. I’d give it 4 stars though because I think lots of people would love this story!’

Good morning P5 / 23rd April 2020

Hello boys and girls,

I really enjoyed speaking to some of you on the phone yesterday and finding out what you are doing to pass the time since school is closed.

Here are a few activities to try-

First Bus have created a special learning pack for children during lockdown. Why not have-a-go working out the problem solving challenges.

First Bus Education pack FINAL April 2020

Tonight marks the start of the holy month of Ramadan which is a time that you usually meet and break fast with family and friends. Sadly, at this time it may not be possible to meet so Mrs Pattie from P4 thought that it would be nice to make a hug that you can send to people you miss.

All you need is some paper and pens to decorate.  You can use fabric to make the “arms” and paper to make the hands and heart but you can make the whole thing from paper if you don’t have any spare fabric. If you do have some fabric and want to try sewing go for it! You can write a message on the back of the hands to add something really special.

PE-

Your teachers at St Albert’s have made a funny exercise video for you to enjoy.

Remember to comment what you are doing and let me know what you would like to see on the blog.  If you want to send pictures of your work you can email them to me at the address below so I can share your work with the class:

Take care,

Mrs Hughes
