HOME LEARNING-times tables

Dear parents/ carers,

Primary 4 are learning to use a number of strategies this term to help with their work on multiplying 2 digit numbers by single digit numbers, such as using arrays and partitioning.  In order to use these strategies, it is essential that pupils have a thorough knowledge of the times tables. The children should be learning these at home at least twice a week. They were given a times tables sheet in August to use for this purpose.

The tables we are concentrating on at the moment are the 6, 7, 8 and 9 times tables. Please ensure that they are chanting these at home regularly. You could help by asking them the answers to these sums. They will have another test next week on these tables. Thank you.

Hi,

P4 will be performing the dance they choreographed with Barrowland Ballet tomorrow at 11.30. You are all welcome come and see their show.

For those of you who can’t make it, here are some pictures of their learning in action.

Best,

Mrs Pattie

Welcome back!!

Hello!

We hope you all had a restful winter break!

It has been a fun, first week back and P4 have been working hard.  Over the next week or so we will let you know what we will be learning this term and keep you updated here with all of the information you need about your child’s school journey.

Today, we went over the core homework sheet (pictured below) to remind the children of what we expect them to do each week.  Please encourage your children to do this weekly homework.  Homework will be handed out on a Monday and should be brought to school by Friday but the homework folder and reading book must come to school everyday as we often use what is inside them.

We will try to organise a drop in session for parents who would like to be shown how to complete the homework, more information on this will follow.

Finally, thank you for all of the lovely Christmas gifts and cards, they were all very appreciated!

Best wishes for the new year,

Mrs Pattie and Miss Brooks

P4 Art Exhibition

Thank you to all of the parents who came along to see our art exhibition last week.  We are trying to get the video the children made turned into a smaller file so we can upload it for you, so watch this space!

The children have been given the First Minister’s Maths Challenge, please encourage them to do this at home…it looks fun!

School closes at 2.30pm on Thursday for the Christmas holidays.

If you need anything for the holidays just let us know.  Have a lovely Christmas season and we will see you all in the New Year!

Kind Regards,
Mrs Pattie and Miss Brooks

P4 Homework 2.12.19

Primary 4 have a Maths worksheet for homework, on addition of hundreds, tens and units numbers. This is due in tomorrow.

For Science homework, the children of P4 can choose one or all of the following activities, related to their work in Science on the subject of sound.

  • Ask them to sit outdoors, listen to and write down the different sounds produced during a 10-minute period.
  • Make a simple musical instrument from junk materials, bring it into school and play it to demonstrate vibrations.
  •  Research how vibrations are made to create sounds in a selection of instruments. They can write a report about this and include some pictures. This Science homework is due in next Monday 9th Dec.

Outdoor learning with Jeely Piece Club

Hi,

Here are some pictures from today’s outdoor learning session with Jeely Piece Club.  The children were asked to build a den and the results were fantastic.  The class also learned how to nail into wood and demonstrated some excellent teamwork skills as well.

Can I please remind everyone that homework should be returned to school on a Thursday and reading books need to come to school everyday.

Best Wishes,
Mrs Pattie

Homework

Primary 4 have been working on counting backwards and forwards in steps of 2, 4, 8, 50 and 100 in  Numeracy this week, They have some worksheets for homework on this topic, which are due in next Monday 28th October, Also they have a solo talk to prepare at home on the subject of a rainforest animal, which they should be ready to present to the class by next Tuesday  29th October. They should research facts to talk about in front of their classmates, online, or in books and write a list of headings on paper to jog their memories about the areas they wish to talk about. For example, what the animal eats, what it looks like, any special features it has, threats to survival and habitat. Try typing ‘rainforest animal facts for kids’ into Google to find information.

Primary 4 will be starting to learn how to join their handwriting next week  in class lessons and will have follow up worksheets to complete at home to reinforce class learning.

Primary 4 have been learning how to spell the first 100 common words in the English language . They have been tested on these in class, Words that some pupils still need to learn to spell have been highlighted on their spelling lists in their homework folders. Please ensure that your child is studying these at home. Suitable spelling strategies to use have been included in a previous blog. New spelling lists will be sent home next week for pupils to learn.

Outdoor Learning Week

What a wonderful week of weather we have had for our outdoor learning.  P4 have been learning how to measure liquids by making their own perfume using plants from our playground.

We also experimented with natural building materials by engineering the tallest, stable structure we could with things we found in the sensory garden.  All of our structures were measured in cm and recorded in a table.

After meditating on how our earth might be feeling in the midst of climate change, we created natural artworks to communicate how we think our planet feels. Ask your children what these artworks represent,  the concepts they designed are powerful and show maturity in their thinking.

Thank you to all of the parents who made it along yesterday to join in our learning.

Best,
Mrs Pattie
