All members of our school community have a responsibility to ensure that the school grounds and surrounding areas are safe. This document lays down these responsibilities. In particular, we should all note the following:
- Staff, parents and pupils are encouraged to walk or cycle to school wherever possible.
- Bikes and scooters should be pushed while in the school grounds to avoid accidents.
- The school carpark is for Fife Council Staff only but spaces are limited – any staff member who arrives to find no space must find a place to park at a safe distance from the school. There is no parking in the bay beside the bins or the one beside the bike shed between 8.30 and 9.30am or between 2.30 and 3.30pm as these bays are designated school transport at that time.
- There is no pedestrian access through the carpark. Pupils and parents should not cut across the carpark or use the vehicle gate. There are moving vehicles at all times of day. Pupils and parents should only ever enter the grounds through the pedestrian gates off Flass Road and Westwater Place.
- Parents who need to drive their child to school should park safely where permitted around the school. They should be prepared to park at a distance and walk the rest of the way and leave time in their journey for doing this. They should not block or turn in private driveways or roads. It is an offence to park on the yellow lines or zig zags even if only briefly and all parents should be aware that cars parked near the school gates compromises the view of pupils crossing the road.
- All staff and parents are asked to avoid idling their car in the the car park or while waiting for drop off or pick up. This is in line with Fife Council advice: available here.
We are grateful to all parents who walk to school or who park at a distance and walk the remaining distance as this action helps us to ensure the safety of all our pupils at drop off and pick up times.
