There are many resources that we can use in our classroom to create an engaging and welcoming learning environment.

Consider your own setting and think about the resources & materials your learners have access to, and reflect on the following questions (inspired by Anna Ephgrave, in ‘Planning in the Moment with Young Children’, 2018):

Is this resource too easy or too difficult for learners to use, or just right?

Can this resource only be used in one way? Does it provide scope for creativity and imaginative play?

Is this resource something which learners have easy access to at home, allowing them to communicate and share experiences with parents and carers?

What level of involvement is encouraged by this resource – are the learners engaged or interested?
