Newport Nursery wk 15.04.24

This week learning is… Exploring, Predicting, Being Curious, Literacy, Mathematics, Sharing, Self-Esteem, Creativity, Motor Skills, Turn Taking, Technology, Outdoor Learning and Problem Solving.

This week in Nursery we have had Miss McKenzie, Mrs Wilson, Mrs Laing our Nursery teacher and Mrs McNeil.

Welcome back everyone after the Easter holiday. We hope you all had a lovely break!!!  We are also welcoming  this week  Gregor and Lachlan and their families to Newport Nursery this week too.  Hello  and welcome to Newport Nursery.

This week the children have settled back into the nursery environment and have continued to develop their learning interests. Outside a group of children created a large hopscotch  design and used skills to hop, jump and balance whilst moving their bodies at speed. They first needed to problem solve on the design, then displayed skills to share ideas, turn takes make changes. They then decided on how many jumps, counting jumps and numbers on the way.

Also outside the children engaged around the sand tray to create an ice cream parlour. Lots of imagination arose with the children using a range of language to describe the ice cream, flavours etc. This extended into developing their numeracy money skills that showed a growing awareness of the different values of coins, notes and other methods of payment creating a shop with a till and money, labels and a price list/menu board.

Down in the bottom garden the children used a range of equipment to further develop their skills to kick and catch a- ball, showing their developing football and tennis skills.  Once again team games are still very popular at the moment with What’s the time Mr Wolf with the children using the dice to see what  and how many steps they needed to take. Another game of Dodge ball was mentioned with the children discussing with the adult the rules of the game and how to be safe whilst playing this outside.

The Learning wall interest in music has returned with lots of questions about the different styles of music through the decades. They have been recalling songs and enjoyed dancing, and singing along to these tunes that has inspired others to participate sharing their thoughts. We looked at Punk rock through Billy Idol and how they dressed. We also listen to a range of different tunes from the 50’s up until the present day. If you would like to share your favourite music it would be most welcome, or if you have a particular skill playing a musical instrument we would love to see your performance…..

In the block area the children have been very busy creating a range of models and sharing their knowledge with the adults about famous structures and building in the world. In the woodwork bench we have seen children creating their own mobile phone and calculators that included a range of functions.

Lots of interest using the smart board showing skills to estimate how many bongs they heard, then matching this to the number. Fantastic response from the children who then asked for more challenges which inspired others to join in also. We had number sequences, make your own tunes and a selection of letter games to find the missing sound.
