***TERM 4 – Personal Project HOMEWORK***

P7 Personal Project: Our Home, Our Planet Guidelines

Focus of this project:
Your project will be about the planet Earth. This amazing living planet is our only home but we are
not the only ones who live here – we share our planet with an incredible diversity of life. Life on
Earth began 541 million years ago, which means there has been an even greater diversity of life
which came before us. So how has our planet changed throughout time? What has caused it to go
through so many changes? How has nature adapted to Earth’s changes? How have humans
adapted to Earth’s challenges? What impact have we as humans had on our planet? How can we
ensure we look after our planet now and for the future?

From geology to wildlife; natural disasters to human ingenuity; prehistoric life to current
environmental issues; there are no restrictions on what topics or issues you pick to write your
project about. Whatever you choose, you should be able to share interesting details from your
research, which will engage and inform your readers.

Time to complete this project:

7 weeks (To be handed in by Friday 20th June 2025) .

Each week you will have time allocated for you to work on your personal project in class.
Use this time wisely. You should be aiming to complete one or two focus points each week (See
“Managing your Time”).

🏠 At home, you should aim to gather information from reliable sources. Take notes of useful
information you wish to include in your project then bring your notes into school.

Format:
Your project should include interesting information and facts written in your own words. Use lots
of illustrations throughout. If there are photographs you would like to include, we may be able to
print a few at school.

Project Content:
Your project should follow this structure:

Front Cover: Carefully designed to include a title, your name and interesting images. (Complete this last to include illustrations from all of your chapters).

Contents page: Detail every section of your project and where to find it by chapter. Even though
this is the first page you come to, it is best to work on it last, after everything else is in it’s final
place. (keep note of pages all the way through or complete at end when you have the finished project).

Introduction: What is your project about? Give a few clues about what we can look forward to
reading about in your project. (Sometimes easier towards the end to write as you can introduce all 5 chapters once you have decided on your order).

Chapters 1-5: Lead the reader through an interesting journey of the areas you have chosen to
research.

Conclusion: Here you should sum up the main points you have made throughout your project.

Bibliography: List of books, websites or other published sources you may have used for your
research. (www.neilstoolbox.com is helpful website, keep a separate word document to copy and paste into or a note if you don’t have an online document. Include date and time you accessed website, building skills for future, high school, college, university and beyond)

Thanks: Include a short paragraph thanking anyone who helped you with your research.

(TOP TIP: highlight text, ctrl + c – to copy and ctrl + v to paste into your document, must be changed to your own words and understanding of the text – not plagiarised)
