Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log, I hope you and your family are well.
The week that’s been…
It’s been an extremely busy week here at KHS with a number of events taking place across most year groups.
On Monday, S2 were involved in the speedy STEM event organised with Fife College here at KHS. Young people were able to take part in a range of activities based around STEM and had the opportunity to speak to staff from Fife College. Well done to all who took part and thank you to Dr Murray for organising this event and staff involved in supporting this.
On Tuesday, young people in S3 attended a performance as part of their social and emotional education. The performance was based on real story of Daniel Spargo-Mabbs who tragically died after taking ecstasy for the first time at a party. Young people were supported to discuss the issues around this and how to make better and more informed choices moving forward. Thanks to Mrs Hamilton for organising this and to all staff who supported young people who attended.
On Wednesday, young people in S4-6 attended assemblies that were based around this weeks theme of Democracy. Young people heard from Fife community team about the importance of taking a full and active role in exercising their democratic right when of age. Young people who were able, and wished to register to vote, were supported to do this following these assemblies by the team.
S3 also had an assembly this week themed around wider achievements, including Duke of Edinburgh. Young people were offered the opportunity to sign up to DofE following the assembly. Anyone who did not attend or has decided to sign up should see Ms Wallace.
We also held our Learning Fair / Pathways event this week for young people in S2, S4 and S5 including parents / carers. Each session began with a short presentation about our Curriculum in KHS and the course choice process. Those who attended then had the opportunity to speak to staff from each subject / faculty about subjects and what to expect. Fife College and Skills Development Scotland also attended and supported those who had specific queries regarding college courses and help with next steps. Thank you to all who attended. Thank you also to all staff and young people who supported the evening.
