Our Week, Our School 12/12/25

Dear Parent / Carer,

Welcome to our weekly family and community communication that provides a Headteacher overview of the weeks events and other school-based events and information.

This is the last Our Week, Our School before the festive break.

The week that’s been…

It has been a whirlwind of a week here in KHS and it’s starting to feel a little festive now that the holidays are in sight!

Wednesday was a very busy day in KHS as our young people received flu vaccinations over the entire day. Lots of ins and outs but many taking the opportunity to protect themselves and others by taking the vaccination. Well done to all for the bravery!

On Thursday, our Supported Learning faculty threw open the doors for an open afternoon in the faculty. Families had the opportunity to visit the faculty, speak to teachers and support assistants. Families could also view work from their child and undertake some fantastic activities. Thank you to Mrs Stewart and the team for their work in organising a successful event. Thank you to all families who attened.

Later that evening, we welcomed young people from S5/6 as they took part in the first Winter Formal since before COVID. A well planned and organised event by our S5/6 events class led to a fantastic evening full of fun, dancing and buffet! Our young people looked fantastic in their formal wear and were a complete credit to themselves, families and our community. A massive thank you and well done to the S5/6 events class and all staff who supported the event. Well done to all who attended and had a splendid evening too.

As ever, if you want to read more about what is happening here at KHS, please follow our blog.

Mrs Duckett has asked me to share the following information with you:

“Woodwind Masterclass:

Our woodwind pupils and S3–S6 musicians recently enjoyed an inspiring masterclass led by Katherine Spencer and Sam Hayward. They explored how to listen to live music as a dreamer, a realist, and a critic, gaining valuable insights into performance and interpretation.

Hearing world-renowned clarinettist Katherine Spencer in person was a real highlight, and we’re grateful to Kirkcaldy Music Society for their generous support to enable the event to take place. We are very proud of two of our pupils, Caitlin and Josie, who performed for us all — their confidence and musicality were truly inspiring and a wonderful example of the talent and ambition within our school. Brava!”

Looking Ahead

Don’t forget — our Christmas Concert takes place on Tuesday, 16th December at 6:30pm. Join us for an evening of festive music and celebration. It promises to be a magical event you won’t want to miss! Please send your child to collect tickets from Mrs Duckett if you have ordered them!

The week ahead…

Next week is the final week of this term and school closes on Friday 19th December 2025 at 1.05pm for young people. The last day will be a non-uniform day and young people can wear school sensible clothing of their choosing. As ever, we ask for a donation (where possible) to support a charity which for this term is ‘Therapet’.

Before we get to the last day of term, we also have the Christmas Fayre (4.45pm – 6.15pm) and Concert (6.30pm start) taking place on Tuesday. On Wednesday young people from S1 and S2 will be going to the panto (oh yes they will!).

I will write to you on Friday in our end of term letter to share successes from the term and some important information.

Finally, school will reopen to all on Monday 5th January 2026 at the usual time.

Wishing everyone a very merry Christmas and happy 2026 when it comes!

Best wishes,

Chris McKay
