Our Week, Our School 29/05/26

Dear Parent / Carer,

Welcome to our weekly family and community communication that provides a Headteacher overview of the weeks events and other school-based events and information.

The week that’s been…

After a few quieter weeks in school, it has been busier in school this week with lots taking place.

On Sunday we said ‘Bon Voyage’ to young people and staff as the Kirkcaldy Pals Battalion left for the battlefields. Lots of updates of been shared on X, Facebook, and the school blog, and we are looking forward to hearing all about it next week when back at school.

Over the start of the week, our English department were undertaking some self-evaluation activities including classroom visits, focus groups with learners and professional discussions with colleagues. Lots of our learners had many positive things to say about the faculty, staff and their learning. Thank you to all that took part.

On Thursday, all of our new S3 were off timetable as they took part in and Inter-Disciplinary learning day focussed on Marseum! Across the day, the school became a series of exhibition spaces, each led by subject “experts”. Pupils moved through these sessions, gathering ideas and perspectives. They then used what they had learned to decide what deserved a place in their own Marseum exhibitions. Well done to all who took part in a fun, engaging and worthwhile day. Massive thanks to Ms Lamont-Boyce for leading and organising this and to all colleagues who took part.

Today, we welcomed back our new S6 following 6 weeks of QS examinations. It was great to see everyone happy to be back and fully engaged in their induction day. We also announced our new S6 school leadership team:

  • Head Girl – Lucy W
  • Head Boy – Aydin E

  • Depute Head Girl – Olivia G
  • Depute Head Girl – Zoe L

  • Depute Head Boy – Adam G
  • Depute Head Boy – Henry T

Well done to all on their appointments and well done to all our S6 on a brilliant first day back!

The week ahead…

Next week, we welcome back our new S5/6 and look forwarded to a fuller school following the examinations.

S5 are taking part in the S5 induction morning P1 and P2 on Tuesday. There will be assemblies for S2-4 led by year heads P3-5. During the assembly, we will be seeking pupils views on our draft School Improvement Plan. This will be shared with you next week and we will also be seeking your views.

A reminder that Monday is a holiday and school will be closed to young people. School will reopen as normal on Tuesday.

Over the course of Tuesday – Thursday, our Business and Computing faculty will be undertaking some self-evaluation activities. Views of learners, families and staff will help to support this.

I hope you have a great weekend when it comes.

Best wishes,

Chris McKay

Headteacher
