Kirkcaldy High School Prize Winners 2024
On a sunny June evening, the Assembly Hall of Kirkcaldy High School resonated with music, pride and heartfelt applause as we gathered for our annual Prizegiving Ceremony – a treasured tradition that celebrates the achievements, character and community spirit of our pupils.
The ceremony began in stirring fashion with performances from the Wind Band and Bagpipes, setting a tone of celebration and pride. Our Head Girl, Katelyn, warmly welcomed guests before Calvin offered a charming recital of the Fife classic “The Boy in the Train”, reminding us all of the importance of place and heritage.
Rector Mr. Chris McKay delivered his address, reflecting on another year of hard work, resilience and outstanding effort from our young people and staff alike. He then invited Head Boy Deacon to introduce our Principal Guest – a particularly special moment this year.

Kirkcaldy High School Prizegiving 2025 – Usque Conabor!
We were honoured to welcome back Mr. Bob Easson BEM, who taught PE at KHS in the 1970s and later dedicated his life to the promotion of school and national rugby. Recently awarded the British Empire Medal for his lifelong contribution to sport, Mr. Easson inspired the hall with his reflections on teamwork, dedication and the transformative power of education.
Musical interludes from the String Trio and our talented “flash mob” Matilda cast (performing “Naughty” and “Revolting Children”) added sparkle and energy to the evening, while the traditional Cake Raffle brought smiles to many faces.
The presentation of awards was the heart of the evening, recognising the efforts of learners across all year groups and subjects. From academic excellence and sporting achievement to resilience, leadership and contribution to school life, each award told its own story of perseverance, talent and growth.
Highlights included:
- Dux of the School: Harris P. – a richly deserved recognition of academic excellence across multiple disciplines.
- The inaugural Lord Elder Memorial Award for Outstanding Leadership: Presented to Deacon E. in honour of the late Lord Thomas Murray Elder, a proud former pupil of KHS.
- The Gregor Smith Memorial Prize for Sports Leadership: Awarded to Arran McKinlay in memory of a much-loved former pupil.
- The Shannon Napier Memorial Award for Bakery: A tribute to Shannon’s legacy and love of Cake Craft, presented to Caitlin J.

Our Legendary Tech Team
We were also proud to celebrate the accomplishments of pupils excelling beyond the classroom: from Scottish Swimming champions and Great Britain floorball players, to Duke of Edinburgh Award recipients and Anne Frank Ambassadors.
The evening concluded with “The Last Word” from Deacon, and Katelyn, and the traditional exchange of the Heads’ Medals as we welcomed our 2025-2026 Head Boy and Girl: Matthew, and Sadie. We send our best wishes to the Class of 2026 as they move forward with courage and confidence.
As always, we extend a huge thank you to the families, staff, sponsors and partners who make Prizegiving possible, all the staff who made it happen, and to Mrs. Connie Laing and Mrs. Elaine Taylor for the beautiful floral arrangements that brought colour to our celebration.
Here’s to another year of striving, learning and achieving – together.
