Dear Parent / Carer,
Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log. I hope you and your family are keeping safe in the storm!
The week that’s been…
What a strange end to the week it has been! I hope all young people have managed to undertake some home learning today due to the school closure.
Firstly, I wanted to thank all families for their support in ensuring young people attend school in appropriate clothing following my letter last week. It has made a clear visible difference and supports the safety and ethos of our school.
This week, young people in S5/6 have been undertaking formal assessments across a range of subjects and qualification levels. As ever, we are really proud of all learners undertaking these assessments with determination and resilience. As a result of the storm and resultant school closure, assessments due to take place today will now take place on Wednesday. We wish everyone the best of luck!
On Wednesday, Ms Black (PT Supported Learning), Laura Frew (Chair of Parent / Carer Council) and I attended Valley Primary School and Fair Isle Primary School for our annual P7 Roadshows. Both events were very well attended. At the event, we shared a flavour of what we are about here at KHS and the many opportunities on offer for learners. We also gave updates on the transition process and events. A huge thank you to Ms Black and Laura for joining and supporting this event. Many thanks to all families and young people who came along.
As ever, you can read more about all the goings on in our blog including from Classics and DET – click here.
A wee update from Ms Black and our Supported Learning department:
“SLD1 and 3 have been working together in some areas of their learning this week in particular sharing Maths strategies to solve some puzzles. We have been also learning about Roman Numerals. We have been sharing a literacy study together and SLD3 have been working on their Climate Change and Sustainability qualification.
In SLD2 we have been continuing our work on the Wars of Independence and looking at the properties of shape and working out lines of symmetry. Our seniors in SLD4 and 5 continue on their qualification pathways; we have been evaluating our progress together and are achieving well. Some leaners are taking prelims this week and are going in looking confident and prepared, well done!
Finally, in exciting news as an expanding department, we have our first two learners accepting College places for post-school destinations. Unconditional offers! We are very proud of the work ethic that it took to achieve these, well done Zachary and Levi. ”
House Point totals for the week and session so far are as below:
This weeks total:
Adam Smith – 58
Carlyle – 90
Oswald – 86
Overall total:
