What a difference a week makes with the weather moving from sunshine to showers. The weather hasn’t dampened spirits in KHS though, after a very busy and productive week.
The week that’s been…
This week we have had a number of young people on educational excursions, some near and another far. Half of our S1 group have attended Fordell Firs, Monday – Wednesday, supported by Guidance staff, house leaders and house captains. The young people have had a fantastic time, enjoying the outdoor adventure and activities. It is great to see them develop their confidence, determination and resilience as well as teamwork. Well done to all involved and good luck to those attending next week.
We have also had young people visiting Washington D.C. in the U.S. After an interrupted start (delay in connecting flights), young people have been having a great time, taking in the sights and exploring the area. We wish all a safe trip home and look forward to hearing about their adventures on their return.
I am also pleased to share a some success with you regarding football…Our S1 Girls Football team have won the Adam Smith Cup this week at Starks Park, beating a good Balwearie team 5-0.
It has been a great week in our Supported Learning department with many opportunities and experiences for our learners. Mrs Wilkie (PT SLD) has provided an update on the department and all that is happening…’Our department is even bigger! We now have pupils from S1-S5 in our Supported Learning department. Over the last few weeks our SLD classes have been settling back into their routines and working hard to build positive relationships. We have welcomed ten new S1 pupils who are getting to know each other and are becoming familiar with their timetables, the staff and the wider school.
We have also welcomed a new teacher to the department. Welcome Mrs Foster, who has joined us from Lochgelly Department of Additional Support.
It is great to see some of our pupils integrating into more mainstream classes for various subjects such as Horticulture, PE and CDT. Many of these pupils are going to these classes independently and it is lovely to see them become confident individuals and successful learners.
As a department we have been working on Kindness and thinking about simple acts of kindness that might help make people’s days more positive. We look forward to building on all of these successes as the term progresses.’

- In addition to the above, I have attached our final draft of the School Improvement Plan for this session, Standards and Quality report for last session and this sessions Pupil Equity Fund Plan. Young people in S1 continue with their visits to Fordell Firs Monday – Wednesday.
Our first tracking reports for this session will be available to view next Friday, using our new online tracking system, Didbook – Progress. Information will be shared with all parents and carers about accessing these over the week.
We will also be in touch shortly about arranging appointments for the first Parent / Carer evening of the new Session with S4 evening on Tuesday 3rd October.
