P4-7 Outdoor Learning

Outdoor Learning is a big part of life at Kingsbarns.  We are incredibly lucky to have the beach, the forest and Cambo estate within 1km from school where we have 2 weekly outdoor learning sessions.  Almost all of the curriculum can be covered in these fantastic outdoor environments and we regularly do maths, project, art and literacy work outdoors.  We also do regular forest school activities including shelter building, fire making, rope work and learning how to use tools in a safe way.  Outdoor learning gives children the opportunity to push themselves out of their comfort zone and build resilience.  Team work, problem solving and creativity skills are all developed.

One of the highlights of the outdoor learning calendar at Kingsbarns are our annual hill walks. P4/5 have the chance to climb East or West Lomond while P6/7 experience the Scottish mountain environment and tackle a Corbett or a Munro.  What a great achievement!

Monday 28th February:

P5-7 geology challenge. Inspired by Zac’s ambition to be a palaeontologist, we learned about the sedimentary rock and fossils on our beach.

21st February:

As part of their project on Europe, P5-7 worked hard in their house teams to create outline maps of Italy, France and Norway.  Norway was particularly challenging with its intricate coastline.  Enjoy the photos.
