Week beginning 4th November 2024

Monday

A couple of children had created a “babies bed” Using different stages of block play. Carrying and complex stacking to create their design transporting items from the home corner to decorate. Lots of sharing of ideas and working cooperatively.

Tuesday

Some of us have been exploring technology and how it works using torches. Some were able to identify the battery life left on their torch by recognising the symbol. Using the torches 🔦 “It’s dark in here!” “Look it’s shining up there!” “Let’s shine it down there!” “We can jump on the light!” Discovering how technology works through play,

Wednesday

Today during our visit to the beach we explored the rock pools finding some different sized sea snails, sea weed, shells and pebbles creating lots of discussion using a wide and varied range of vocabulary. This afternoon a few families joined us for our weekly PEEP session which this week was about ‘Numbers, Numbers Everywhere’ where we designed, and created our own number books using a variety of materials,  sang number related songs/rhymes before enjoying a number themed story.

Thursday

During gym today all children participated well exploring a variety of different apparatus developing gross motor, turn taking and sharing skills. Some children were pretending to be teachers assigning ‘work’ to their pupils and reading stories – developing knowledge of the world of work whilst sharing/ representing their ideas through role/imaginative play.

Friday

Today some children were building dams in the sand -experimenting and discussing how to stop the water from going over/through the dam – developing problem solving skills. The musical instruments were popular with the majority of children. We discussed the names of the instruments and listened to the different sounds each instrument made. We discussed how we could play the instruments loudly, quietly, fast, slow- developing our use of mathematical language.

21st October 2024

Monday

Most of us have enjoyed role playing games in the garden this morning. Inside some of us have been making birthday cakes at the playdough table selecting different materials for decorating and singing Happy Birthday.

Tuesday

Some of us have been at the art table designing and creating  dolls and outfits for them using  junk modelling. Whilst creating  we were then able to  name parts of the body.

.

Wednesday

Following on from an interest last week, most of us made bird feeders. Developing our fine motor skills with threading, spreading and using the hole punch. We have been discussing how we can stick the seeds on and what we might be able to use, considering the safety for the birds. 🐦 Taking ownerships selecting sticks from the garden and colour of thread. “The birds will love my pink one” “gold is my favourite colour”, “sonic feeder”. Sharing space with our peers and taking turns waiting patiently for equipment.

Thursday

In the home corner today some have been role playing families. Showing how to care for babies, to gently rock to sleep and care for them by dressing them.  We all had a discussion on our nursery charter talking about our responsibilities. One child shared their interest in bridges. This was then researched looking at old photographs and newspaper clippings online discussing the railway bridge disaster. The child then created their own bridge problem solving the construction “It’s not safe, it’s too wobbly.” Identifying different lengths “It’s too small.”

Friday

Today majority of the children have been role playing super hero’s creatively using different forms of technology to communicate one another e.g. role playing talking to their wrists. Using their  bodies and facial expressions to create a dramatic emphasis on their character .  At the playdough table, one child was able to make playdough independently.  The playdough was then shared and used our creative skills using autumnal natural resources.
