Active School

My name is Robert Greenhorn, the Active Schools Co-ordinator for Fair Isle Primary School, and the other associated primaries that feed into Kirkcaldy High School.  My role is dedicated to developing and supporting the delivery of quality sporting opportunities for children and young people at Fair Isle. Active Schools as a service aims to provide more and higher quality opportunities to take part in sport and physical activity before school, during lunchtime and after school, and to develop effective pathways between schools and sports clubs in the local community.

I work very closely with Mrs Bell, Mr Hutcheson & Miss Duncan to ensure that Fair Isle is one of Fife’s leading schools in providing young people with opportunities to take part in sport and physical activity.  This is through extra-curricular clubs, competitions and festivals, leadership and development opportunities and targeted programmes. I also work with Mrs Milne as part of our area PEPAS group, where we share/discuss the good practices at Fair Isle with the rest of the Kirkcaldy schools.

Since 2013, Fair Isle have scored above the national average of ‘45% Distinct Participation’. This means that more than >45% of the children at Fair Isle PS are taking part in regular sport/competitive school sport opportunities through-out the academic year.  This makes Fair Isle one of the most inclusive schools in Fife, not just Kirkcaldy.
