Curricular Projects

Throughout their time at East Wemyss Primary, children will experience a variety of different contexts for learning. This will include opportunities to take their learning outdoors and to work together to develop their teamwork skills.

Here are a few examples of some of the projects our children have been involved in this year:

P7: Our P7s are currently working towards achieving the John Muir Discover Award. This has been delivered in partnership with Ardroy Outdoor Education Centre.

P6: Our P6s have the opportunity to work towards achieving the Heritage Hero Award. Last session, the year group investigated the occupations that people traditionally had in East Wemyss by visiting the local grave yard. This year, the class have investigated the heritage railway line.

P6 are also taking part in the StAMP Discovering Brass project this year. The class are receiving weekly instruction to teach them to play the natural trumpet.

P5: P5 have the opportunity to work with the Youth Music Initiative. Youth Music Initiative (YMI) aims to create access to high quality music making opportunities for young people, offer young people the chance to achieve their potential in or through music making, and support the development of the youth music sector for the benefit of young people. Fife YMI offers a variety of music projects delivered by highly skilled Fife Music Instructors and external music partnerships with respected local and national providers.

Last year,  the P5s completed a YMI project involving African drumming. This year, the P5 class focused on Gaelic music. This involved learning pieces involving drumming, ukulele, tuned percussion and singing. They then performed their pieces for the whole school and their families.

Our P5s are also currently working with the Forth Rivers Trust to complete a project called ‘Fish in the Classroom’. They have also earned the Bronze, Silver and Gold  RSPB Wild Challenge Awards.

Over the last two years, we have worked on developing our approach to learning outdoors. Have a look at our Sway to see what we have been up to this session
