Room 8
Literacy
This term, we will focus on imaginative writing, encouraging children to develop their creativity through engaging characters, vivid settings and well-structured storylines. Pupils will build key skills such as using descriptive language, varying sentence structures and applying accurate punctuation, while also planning, drafting and improving their work to become more confident, independent writers.
In reading, we will continue to develop fluency, supporting pupils to read smoothly, accurately and with expression. There will be a focus on recognising key words and strengthening comprehension skills, including answering a range of question types, making inferences and using evidence from the text. Pupils will also have opportunities to create their own questions, encouraging deeper thinking and engagement with what they read.
Numeracy
This term, we will focus on money, helping pupils to recognise coins and notes, make different amounts and develop confidence in using money in real-life contexts. Children will practise calculating totals, giving change and writing amounts accurately using the correct notation.
We will also develop understanding of fractions, including recognising simple fractions and finding fractions of shapes and quantities. In addition, pupils will explore data handling, learning how to collect, organise and interpret information using charts and simple graphs. Through practical activities and problem-solving tasks, pupils will build confidence and strengthen their numeracy skills.
Interdisciplinary Learning (IDL)
This term, our IDL focus will be on enterprise, with pupils working collaboratively to plan and take part in activities to raise money for a chosen charity. Children will develop skills in teamwork, communication and problem-solving as they generate ideas, make decisions and take responsibility for different roles.
Through this topic, pupils will also gain an understanding of money management, organisation and the importance of helping others, making meaningful connections between their learning and real-life experiences.
