International Languages pupils attend university debate

Higher and Advanced Higher pupils from the Faculty of International Languages had an exciting and informative visit to Heriot Watt University’s annual Multilingual Debate.  The debates showcase the interpreting skills of the university’s undergraduate students, while providing opportunities for postgraduate students to develop their professional skills.

The pupils listened to the debates and were very impressed by what was being said by the panel.  The panel deliver their views in a number of different languages – French German, Spanish, English, Arabic, Chinese and British Sign Language.

A worthwhile trip for our senior pupils with the audience encouraged to ask questions.

Today’s “Christmas Jumper Day” has seen a large number of pupils and staff getting involved with this fundraiser in aid of Cupar Foodbank.  The S5 girls  – Georgia Griffin, Niamh Callan, Lucy Barclay, Tara Tannock, Chloe Laing, Molly Wilson and Laura Douglas – who have been leading this initiative are delighted with the response to their appeal.

We are delighted to announce that 1285 items were collected this morning contributing to the 130 Christmas hampers which will be distributed to local families this weekend.

Our ‘thanks’ go to Ms Macconnochie and Miss McNeill who supported the girls; to TESCO for supplying some trolleys, and a special mention to Finaly Aitken, Alastair Bell, Bailey Carstairs and Paul Bateman who helped the ladies at the foodbank to unload the goods.

Well done to everyone who has got involved with helping Cupar Foodbank support local families in need!

Supporting Cupar Foodbank at Christmas

This year, Bell Baxter have decided to organise a “Reverse advent calendar” initiative in aid of Cupar Foodbank.

The initiative asks people to donate items to the ‘calendar’ with the focus being on helping the families most in need in our community.  Boxes will be available in all faculties and the LRC throughout the school between Monday, 26th November and Friday, 14th December to receive your donations.  Whether you are able to donate a single item, or multiple items throughout the 3 weeks, all will be gratefully received by both us and the Foodbank.

The Foodbank have advised us that the most requested items include hot chocolate, long-life fruit juice, tinned meat products, savoury snacks (dated after Christmas), diluting juice, jelly, toiletries and/or Christmas goodies.

If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact Miss McNeill (Room 334, Science) or Ms MacConnochie (Room 321, Modern Languages).

Thank you for supporting this initiative and helping us to spread a little bit of festive cheer.
