Counselling Through Schools

In September 2019 Scottish Government announced funding for Counselling Services for children and young people as additional monies until 2022/23 and thereafter baselined in the local Government settlement.

Within our 8 mainstream and ASN secondaries counsellors work with children and young people from 10-18 years on blocks of 6 sessions. Counsellor have to be accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA). Schools have their own referral routes for accessing time with a school-based counsellor, in the first instance you should contact the pastoral staff (or primary Head Teacher) in you or your child/young person’s school to request support.

We have also extended provision for the 10-12 year old group, so as they don’t need to access this via their cluster secondary school. You can find out more information about this on our Primary School Counselling page

Additionally, we are currently running a summer counselling programme with Relationships Scotland which covers July and August 2024 whilst schools are closed for the holidays. Sessions take place on Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30am at:

The Cottage
