Commonwealth Golden Time

Easter Carmuirs have been doing sports on a Friday for golden time. Each class gets to choose with activity they would like and at about 2.15pm we go to the teacher that offered to do that activity then the teacher takes us to the place the activity is being held. Some of the activities were rounders, athletics , gymnastics and Boxercise We were trying to base some of the sports on the Commonwealth Games. We were doing something called Bikeability. Bikeability is when a man comes in and teaches you how to ride your bike properly. We have been doing all of this for a couple of weeks because it is coming up to the Commonwealth.

Easter Carmuirs is Going for Glasgow!

Easter Carmuirs have been completing a whole school project on the Commonwealth Games from January this year. As part of our Golden Time programme, the pupils have had the opportunity to try over 13 different sports ranging from ten pin bowling to softball. These have been running on a 4 weekly rotation and have proved to be a popular choice for pupils of all ages.

In individual classes, pupils have been completing personal projects; Primary 6/7 chose either Trinidad and Tobago or the Bahamas and researched the geography and culture. Primary 5/6 researched a Commonwealth country of their choice and completed a project about the athletes coming to Glasgow this summer. Primary 4 created their own mascots for Glasgow 2014.

Easter Carmuirs have also developed a Global Citizenship link with a school in Trinidad and Tobago. Mayaro Government Primary is a large school of 493 students, with a former student, Cleopatra Borel-Brown, representing the island in the Shot Putt event. We are currently developing this link with the pupils exchanging emails and letters. We plan to complete a joint project on leather back turtles on the island, Operation Trinidad, in association with Gillian Simpson from Zoolab.

Our Commonwealth Sports Day was a huge success! We had a great turn out from parents and invited guests, including Provost Pat Reid, Mr Webster from Falkirk High School and Yvonne McBlain. All pupils were involved in the preparation for this event, creating flags and banners to lead their house onto the field. Everyone performed fantastically, and in the end, Antonine were announced as winners, their trophy was presented to them by Provost Reid.

We have had pupils competing in a variety of sport festivals and tournaments this year. They had a great time at the Netball, Rugby and Athletics Festivals, the P7s enjoyed their Commonwealth Games at Grangemouth Stadium and some P5 and P6 pupils took part in a Triathlon event at Grangemouth High School. These events have been a great opportunity for our pupils, who have all behaved well and have been a credit to Easter Carmuirs.

Our Going for Glasgow project has been a fantastic opportunity for us to learn about the history of the Games and the countries involved in the Commonwealth. We have had so many great opportunities to take part in new sports and activities, allowing us to discover what Falkirk has to offer! We can’t wait to continue these sports as we enter a new term in August!

Them Bones…

P2 are learning all about our bodies.  We have learned about external body parts and their functions.  Now we are learning about internal body parts.  We were thinking about bones and why we have them.  We worked in groups to make skeletons with moving arms and legs!  Here is what we know about bones:

The bones keep our brain safe – Charlie

Bones keep your body nice and straight – Morgan

The bones keep our hearts and lungs safe – Conor

Bones help us stay up and not be all wobbly – Callum

Bones help you move – Amy

Bones are soft on the inside but hard on the outside – Abi

P2 Get a Visitor!

An alien has appeared in the P2 class!  He left a letter explaining that he had crash landed in Camelon and his spaceship would take a while to get fixed.  He has asked the children to help him find out more about Camelon.  We went for a walk to show Zap the Alien the different kind of houses around Camelon.  Keep watching to find out what we do next!

Yesterday I went for a walk we saw lots of house’s.  I liked going for a walk.  I felt happy.  I took a picture of my little  brother with Zap.  I had lots of fun.  We all took a picture.

P2 Visit Nurture Room

P2 came to visit the Nurture Room. We had a great time finding out more about it! It was fun because there were so many different things to do than in our own classroom. Some of our favourite things were chatting on the comfy seats, getting to sit around the table and having something to eat, and playing with all the different toys.
Amy really enjoyed dressing up. Kenzie liked playing with the cars. Ben and Keyon liked relaxing in the tent! Aimee like sitting around the feelings rug and talking about how we feel.
We can’t wait to come back to visit again!
