Sporting achievements

Our pupils are lucky enough to have the opportunity to have both visitors to the school (pictured below is when we had some tuition for Shinty) & trips outwith the school grounds (below our 2026 Charlie Nicolson football team) to learn and take part in various events throughout the Island.  Above is 1 of our P2 children, Josie who took part in the local colour run.

One very lucky boy had the most wonderful Christmas gift after being chosen by Rangers Football Club to be a mascot at their post Christmas match in 2025!  Lewis loved every minute!

From September to November we had 4 staff teams walking the length of the Caribbean battling against each other!  The Shufflers came out top and each won a gift voucher from the NHS! Our janitor (Murdo) came out on top (1st place) in a challenge of over 300 participants! Go Jani!!

Fundraising for charity

Each year the children raise money for two charities, these charities are Bethesda Care home, a local nursing home with carers for individuals who may need extra care, the elderly or their Hospice looks after those who are receiving palliative care.

The second charity is Children in Need, the nationally run charity event.  Donations to this are normally made through the “Just Giving” page for Shawbost School.

Sports Committee

Our Sports committee meet regularly to discuss upcoming sporting events and planning future events.

Shawbost school recently won the Sportscotland Award! the school has achieved the Silver Award.

Daily Mile Children Fit for Life Award: the school has also been awarded the Daily Mile Award; this is a new award that is designed to recognise and celebrate schools that have fully embraced the Daily Mile in their setting. We are now one of 22 schools across Scotland who are listed on their website!

360 Group

The 360 group meeting fortnightly to discuss and ensure digital safety is explained and understood in an appropriate manner to enable the continued safe use of technology.

“To enable all schools and local authorities to develop an ethos of digital citizenship that leads to safe and responsible use of all technology. This will encourage schools to positively embrace technology to enhance learning now and in the future whilst helping them protect staff, children and young people from possible harmful consequences of misuse.”
