2013 BICT Christmas card competition
This year’s BICT Christmas card competition was won by Humza, a student in class 2G. The brief was to design a Christmas or New Year card from scratch using only graphics drawn on the computer by the author. In a close fought competition Humza’s card was judged to be the card with the most appeal in terms of quality and humour. Humza’s card will be sent out to other departments in the school and he will receive a prize for his excellent design – well done Humza!
First Place: Scottish Schools Stock Market Challenge
Earlier in the session we reported on the success of our S3 Business management students winning first place in the Scottish Schools Stock Market Challenge. Since then the programme has been nominated for a Scottish Financial Services Award. In preparation for the awards ceremony a video, featuring our very own talented Business management students, was produced and can be viewed <here>. The BICT department is obviously delighted to continue to offer such a meaningful and relevant experience to our business students.

S3 pupils are a hit on the stock market!
Five students in S3 proved that trading in the Stock Market is no easy task! Business Management students Amy, Jack, Lauren, Amy, and Ahmed took part in the annual Stock Market Challenge held at the Mitchell Library on Thursday 26 January. Competing against 27 other schools the team were tasked with investing over £20,000 in a virtual stock market with the aim of maximising their portfolio by the end of trading. As soon as the familiar stock market bell rang the team had limited time to respond to breaking news bulletins and decide whether to buy or sell their shares!
Although the team did not take the top prize they were met with success, winning the prize for best Media Analysis. Congratulations to the team on their success.
