January Blog

January

We are delighted to be back after the holidays!! (AND this sentence includes some of our spelling words!) We have already learnt so much! We have investigated Scottish Inventors. On Burns’ Night we learnt about the Scottish poet and even sung one of his songs, Oh my luve is like a red, red rose. We have become more aware of Internet Safety. We are doing gymnastics. We have learned about exclamation marks and where they should go (although there are probably too many in this blog!!!)

Achievements – As ever, we are incredibly sporty and ACTIVE in gymnastics, swimming, football and dancing.

We have shown confidence doing new things, being INCLUDED, like joining cubs

We are successful learners, using Kinects and making lanterns, ACHIEVING success in building and making things.

We have been HEALTHY, climbing and cycling really far.

We have been RESPONSIBLE and INCLUDED our new classmates in our fun and games.

We know how to keep ourselves SAFE and have First Aid badges in Brownies.

November blog

This month has been so exciting for us as we held our class assembly. Anyone who saw it would agree that we performed brilliantly! We told our family, friends and school buddies all about the Jewish festival of Sukkot. We showed off our craft skills, with the succahs we made and our wonderful pictures. We sang and even danced with the lulav and etrogs!

Another exciting thing that happened this month was a walk in the local area where we investigated the different types of houses that people live in, like flats, semi-detached houses and bungalows. We also picked up different types of leaves on our walk.

We have been experimenting with different methods of creating art work. We made a collage from leaves we had collected, in the style of Guiseppi Archimboldo. We also made a tree from our leaf rubbings on to silver foil.

We have been learning how to dribble and pass the ball in basketball, but also how to stop! We had great fun being competitive and keeping fit.

We have learnt to use conjunctions (joining words), like “because” and “so”, making two short sentences into one long and more interesting sentence

Our mental maths calculations are improving because we have been practising by playing games on Sumdog.

We have been very funny, making our class and teacher laugh at the Voice Box Joke Competition and we have also been very successful at the Road Safety competition.

Finally, we learnt a lot about the Scottish Patron Saint and celebrated being Scottish because of St Andrew’s Day.

Achievements – Primary 3b are the most awesome class in the school, surely! We have helped people a lot, thinking about others in our families (including our pets!). We have been facing our fears, jumping in the deep end and bouncing on different trampolines. Our footballing, gymnastics and swimming skills are improving.

October blog

October

We are really considering the environment in Primary 3b. After reading Eco Wolf and the three pigs, The Promise (an emotional picture book about making the world clean and happy) and Charlie and Lola look after your planet we thought much more about being Eco-Friendly. We completed tasks online and are now Eco-Environment Agents – we know how to save energy, tidy away rubbish and not waste resources – our message is: REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE and RESPECT (the environment!).

We looked at what kinds of buildings people live in around the world and are about to go on a trip around the local area to see what kinds of houses people live in around here. We are also going to check to see if we can spot any eco-friendly houses with solar panels or wildlife gardens.

We’ve moved on from rugby to basketball – they are both team and ball sports, but the balls are shaped quite differently so need different skills when passing.

Achievements – Primary 3b are totally awesome again. We have won medals, can dance like a robot, rollerskate, cannonball dive, play the drums and piano, go on a flume and even more of us can tie our own shoelaces! We are so proud.

First blog post as P3b and there is so much to tell!

We have had the most marvellous first few weeks of school.

We started our fun learning by exploring three books by Roald Dahl, thinking about his expressive vocabulary and exciting stories. We used drama and PE to enable us to explore his excellent characters.

We have been working really hard on fitness and can tell we are being fit by feeling our pulse in our neck – if we have been working hard, it is faster.

We are become so incredibly computer literate – We can use the Activote pods to answer questions. We have learnt how to log in to Primary Games and play numeracy games to help our mental maths skills. We can use the computer to take part in Storyworlds activities. We have just received our own log-ins for Sumdog so we can play competitions against children all around the world!

We are starting to learn about the environment and look at Eco-friendly houses, so watch this space!

Achievements – Primary 3b are totally awesome. We are an incredibly sporty bunch. We swim loads – and have even been recognised for the huge amount of money we raised for a diabetes charity. We go to Brownies and Mosque and can even tie our own shoelaces now!

Our Local Area

This month we have been learning lots all about our local area. At the start of the topic we posed some questions that we would like to know the answer to, on our learning wall.

As you can see from all of our post-it notes, we have been finding out lots of information! We have used search engines to locate our information and we have been looking various maps. P2b now know what a key in a map is and have created their own key when looking at a map of Giffnock.

We have been designing a PowerPoint in ICT so that we can present our information about the local area in an exciting and engaging way! We have learned how to open and save a PowerPoint presentation, how to add new slides, change the font and add in fancy transitions! Harry said  “I can’t wait to show my presentation to the class!” P2b have also created a leaflet about all of the local amenities in the area for specific groups of people.

In drama, we have linked our learning to the Rights of the Child as well as our topic. We all became different characters (from old ladies to teenagers) and debated whether or not the local park should be knocked down. This also helped to reinforce our learning in talking and listening where we have learned how to agree and disagree with others politely. Have a look at some of us in character…

We are really looking forward to our last month in P2 and all of the exciting things we will be learning as Primary 3’s in training!

Oops…

Miss Thomson, Mrs Horrocks and P2b are very sorry because our blogs haven’t been published on the school website! We have been so busy doing lots of different things this year and we have been posting our blogs on P2b’s GLOW page instead. They are now up here for everyone to see, we hope you enjoy reading what we have been doing!

Amazing April!

We have been awesome again this month!! Our swimming skills are continuing to develop. We have been swimming longer distances and even jumping in the deep end of the big pool. Some of us have been spending a lot of time outdoors climbing trees and making dens. We have also been doing really well at completing our daily mile challenge!

School was not as fun as it is now

In Snapshots of the Past we have enjoyed learning about what it was like to go to school a long time ago. By researching, we discovered that teachers were very strict and that if children were naughty they had to wear a dunce hat and were often given the cane. We have also been learning about what homes were like and we are looking forward to creating a single end as part of technology.

Back in the day…

We have started our brand new topic called Snapshots of the Past. First we had to learn what the words decade and century meant. Then we began learning about toys and games from different decades. We learned how to make a timeline, how to draw a Venn diagram and make a table of comparisons. We have looked at toys people played with by searching for reliable information during ICT. We have even created our own board game by finding out what makes a good game in any decade!

“I learned that typewriters were invented before computers” – Yousaf
“I learned that in the olden days rocking horses had real hair from a real horse for the tail and hair.” – Neve
“I learned that cameras in the olden days didn’t have any colour so they were black and white.” – Azlaan
“I learned that on Sundays children were only allowed to play with their Noah’s Ark toy.” – Leah
“I learned that in the olden days girls only played with girls toys and boys only played with boys toys. Rich and poor people had different toys made from different materials too.”
