Play is the Way

We are really enjoying our new classroom, especially our learning area outside. We have a ‘Creation Station’ and use the loose parts (beans, pasta, gems, stones and many more) to help us in all areas. We have made our spelling words and tricky words, also clocks, remembering twelve symbols and two hands. We have used our imagination and created fantastic face pictures of our friends. Our new construction area provides excellent challenges as we have followed the K-Nex instructions to build many models. Hugo and Hima were extremely proud of the snowboard they made after following the 5 steps. We asked for pictures of famous buildings, bridges and ships which we used as a guide when building our own creations. We voted for our new role play area to become a Science Lab so we could investigate different materials using magnifying glasses, sorting and writing fact files about what we discovered. Thomas was very keen to get lab coats, which we must wear when we are Scientists in the Lab. We love using our STEM challenge box and have used straws, pegs, lollipop sticks to make chicken (Carys), giraffes (Cameron, Charlie and Hima), a float (Isla), a crab (Lucas), towers and bubble wands. Isla was fascinated that all bubbles are spheres even if the wand is a cuboid, pyramid or cube shape. During maths week, we were counting, measuring and identifying shapes outdoors. Zohaib and Sophie enjoyed “working in a team” as they were tallying different colours and shapes around the playground. We were very lucky to have Jack’s Mum come in during Maths Week to explain how she uses maths when making chocolate and how it changes from a solid to a liquid and back again.  We loved tasting the chocolate, it was ‘delicious.’This was perfect for our science topic! We also learned about money from Leo’s Dad. He spoke to us about Banks and saving money, using bank cards and borrowing money to buy expensive things. We counted out different amounts to buy ice cream.

In Science, we have been leading our own learning and have thought of so many questions that we wanted to find out the answers to about materials. ‘How do rocks become flat? (Charlie) How do you make bricks? (Will)  How can materials change? (Flynn)

We worked together to create our Growth Mindset display. Oliver reminded us that the brain is a muscle and you have to exercise it. We have all been trying really hard to be like ‘Captain Challenge’ and ‘Effort Evan’ and not give up.

In PE, we have been improving our fitness, by skipping, star jumps, knees up and press ups. ‘I can’t skip YET,’ we said last month but with determination and effort we have achieved this. Keep trying this at home.

In RME, we will be finding out about the Christian festival Harvest and different places of worship. We hope to visit some places of worship within our local community.

In French, we will be learning how to count to 20 and to talk about ourselves. We will be listening to well-known stories and singing songs.

As part of Expressive Arts and Social Studies, we will be learning about different environments and expressing this through Drama and Dance. We look forward to entertaining you at our Christmas Show and our Christmas Service at the Church.

Achievements

Fantastic Awesome Achievements. Archery, gymnastics, lego challenges, canoeing, park runs, mud races, football team, riding two-wheeler bike, reading chapter books, using money and many more. DETERMINATION, FRIENDSHIP, and INCLUSIVITY shown by all. Keep this up!!

Literacy and Numeracy

Our learning in these areas will draw upon the contexts listed above but will differ according to the needs of each group. Your support with consolidation of core learning through homework activities will be very beneficial to our children.
