May 2021

This month we have been doing lots in class. We know that there isn’t much time left in P7 so we are trying to fit in as much as we can. W have been focusing on angles in Maths. We have had a go of using the protractor to draw and measure angles. In Art, we spent a lot of time designing a cover for the school ‘International Cookbook’ and we followed an artists demonstration to create a realistic image of lips. Some of them turned out very well.

This month has been all about Science for us. It was great to write up an experiment just like we will in high school. We investigated if hand washing reduces the transmission of germs. We used bread and set a few different samples to investigate what works best- handwashing, sanitiser. The results were very interesting. Handwashing wa most effective. However, we did notice that sanitiser was also effective and it demonstrated to us there need to wash our hands as the germs grew much faster on the bread we touched before washing our hands.

There have been a lot of debates going on in our class too. We all like to share our opinions. We worked in groups to create arguments for and against things like the banning of homework and school uniform. It was great to hear everyone’s opinion.

This has been a very special month for a lot of us. Many of us made out Confirmation in St. Cadoc’s Church. It was a very special night. We spent a lot of time in class preparing for this special sacrament. We had to pick a saint that meant a lot to us. We presented some information about our saint to the class.

We had a great time visiting the forest this week. It was all about speed and agility for us as we raced through the water as we were being timed to see how fast we could all make it through. We then did a river walk, helping each other navigate the slippery rocks. The park was definitely our favourite. Even in Primary 7, the swings and the roundabout gave us a lot of laughs.

We are really looking forward to the month ahead. There are a lot of trips planned and just now we are in the process of writing the blurb for our yearbook and we are also looking out photos of us from our time at St. Cadoc’s. It is going to be  a very exciting month. We are excited to spend a little bit longer in primary 7 and make lots of memories with our friends.

April 2021

We are all very happy to be back in school and in  a more normal routine. Coming back after lockdown has been great. We did a lot in the two weeks we had before our Easter holiday. We really needed the break as we had worked very hard. It is our last term in St Cadoc’s which we can’t believe. We have a lot to look forward to but know we have a lot of work to fit in and things to do to help us prepare to move on to high school. So far this term we have been spending a lot of time working on our Maths and Comprehension skills. Our comprehension skills have really improved because we have been reading a lot and we have been thinking about the different types of questions that we could be asked. We now know how to answer understanding, analysis and evaluative questions. We all have different areas of strength and weaknesses in Maths so we have been working together and helping our partners with different concepts like fractions, percentages, angles and algebra. Our writing focus has been poetry and also writing a balanced argument. The big debate was whether homework should be banned or not. There were lots of amazing arguments presented for both sides. It was our first time back in the forest this week. The rain was not the best but we still had fun. We tidied up the forest by collecting the rubbish and then we worked in groups to create a new design of the forest. We thought about how we could create little areas for people to enjoy. Some of us added in a tree house or a seating area. We used the waterfall as the calming area for people to relax and unwind next to. We had to work well together and draw on our different skills and talents. Our time in the forest ended with a big game of hide and seek. Even in P7 we still absolutely love it!

December 2020

This has been a very busy month for us. We have been working hard in Maths and Literacy and have developed lots of new skills. Our main focus in Maths has been Algebra. We are becoming a lot more confident with it and are able to work independently. In Literacy, we have been working on our comprehension skills. We have worked on more difficult comprehension tasks that have enabled us to understand how to answer inferential questions. We have also created lots of exciting writing pieces. Some of our favourite ones to do were the Letter to Mrs Claus and a personal piece ‘When I grow up’. During outdoor learning, we have been working on our team building skills when we made our bridge and we have liked learning to abseil down the slope. Our favourite time has been rehearsing and creating our video for Christmas. We are very proud of the outcome. We all had to dress up and create costumes for the band members. It was a lot of fun to film. It took us a whole afternoon but it has turned out very well. We can’t wait for you all to watch it.

We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

November 2020

We have been very busy in P7a. We have been learning lots of different things. In PE we have been working on the different skills needed to play basketball. During outdoor learning time we have been visiting the upper part of the forest where we have been learning to abseil and climb up a steep slope with confidence. We also had to work as a team to build a bridge to get us across the river. We have been focusing on two different genres for writing, functional writing and poetry. We created two poems. One was about Guy Fawkes night and the other was about autumn. We created some colourful art to display with our poems. The two functional pieces we have done are a letter to our local MP and instructions on how to wrap a present. In Maths, we have been looking at 3D shape and we have just started to look at algebra. We are learning to collect like terms and simplify equations. Recently, we have started our topic about World War 2 and we have learned about the outbreak of war. We also finished our previous topic about the United States of America. Most of us have created and presented a presentation about this to our class.

October 2020

This month we have done lots of interesting things in class. We have been enjoying getting used to being the oldest in school and role models to the younger children. We have spent a lot of time talking about our school values and thinking about how we can live out these values in school. In Literacy, we have been using the dictionary to help us with our spelling words. They have been getting a lot harder so we have been spending more time on them. We also created some persuasive pieces of writing. We had to choose three things we would change about the world. They all turned out so well. Last week, we continued the story of Doctor Frankenstein and The Monster. We used lots of adjectives to help our reader build a picture of The Monster in their head.

One of the things we have enjoyed most this month is Bikeability.

We spent a morning at Crookfur for our ‘Off-Road’ session. We learned how to check our bike, move away safely and read the road signs. This will help us when

we go on the road next week which we are very excited for.

September 2020

So far we have enjoyed being back in school with our friends. It is our final year in St. Cadocs’s and we want to make it the best yet.

In Maths, we have been learning about fractions. We now know how to simplify, find equivalent fractions, multiply, add and subtract fractions. In Literacy, we have been been focusing on Imaginative writing. We have enjoyed creating our own stories and using our imagination.

Our new Topic is North America. We got to vote on the country that we would like to learn more about. We have lots of questions about America and are planning on using our Chromebook time to find answers to these questions.

During our Art time, we have been learning to draw in detail. So far we have drawn a Lion, Toucan, Bicycle, and an abstract landscape. We have really enjoyed spending time on these. They all look amazing.

Outdoor learning has been fun as we haven’t really had the chance to do this before. We got the chance to go to the forest and create some Art there and made a den. We also spent time in the mud area where we worked as a team to construct an obstacle course and get our whole team around it.

We are really looking forward to the rest of the year. We hope to  make it a good one!
