Virtual Work Experience – Design a Net-Zero McDonald’s Restaurant

DYW Virtual Work Experience week has been developed under My Climate Path. My Climate Path can offer 500 funded places to S3 pupils in the DYW Glasgow, West and Lanarkshire & East Dunbartonshire regions. The DYW Virtual Work Experience week will take place 1st – 5th November. Virtual Work Experience will inspire and raise the aspirations of young people to consider Construction and the Built Environment as a valuable career path. The learners will discover real-world applications of STEM and can access a whole range of exciting professional career pathways through strong industry and academic links. Content In collaboration with COYO and McDonald’s, pupils will be challenged to design a ‘Net Zero’ McDonald’s restaurant for a local community. During the week, pupils will be introduced to the concept of ‘net zero’ design. They will be asked to design an inclusive, modern restaurant, with support throughout the week from industry professionals. Pupils will be required to produce a written report over the course of the week and submit this for moderation. Successful pupils will receive a “DEC CONNECT Award” endorsed certificate. Alignment with Curriculum & Careers Advice Aligns with the DYW Career Education Standard. Strong curriculum links to STEM subjects + English, Geography, Art, Design & Technology. Young WEIR-WISE: Discovering Engineering with S2 Girls

The University of Strathclyde, in collaboration with the Weir Group, are delighted to be offering the virtual Young WEIR-WISE programme again in 2022 for female school pupils in S2. Participants will hear from staff at the University and colleagues from The Weir Group who will provide an insight into studying and working in the field of engineering. They will also be issued in advance with a Young WEIR-WISE ‘Lab Kit’ to take part remotely in practical activities which staff will guide them through during the online sessions. We received excellent feedback from pupils who attended the virtual 2021 programme and we ask that you bring this to the attention of S2 girls, particularly those that have a talent for mathematics or physical sciences. The NHS Allied Healthcare are holding a virtual work experience day on the 3rd October, for students who are specifically interested in the following careers: Nursing, Midwifery, Paramedicine, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietetics, Radiography, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Speech and language therapy and Pharmacy. During the work experience day, you will follow 2 patients from their initial presentation to recovery. You will observe the healthcare professionals as they interact with the patients and each other. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and gain knowledge through teaching. This will help you to make an informed career decision as well as learn about how healthcare professionals work together as part of a multidisciplinary team. Each work experience day is completely different and you will be able to build on their knowledge of NHS careers as they see different patient cases and healthcare professionals work in a variety of settings, such as hospital and community. You will also receive certificates as evidence of having participated in the work experience programme. Places are £10 a day to cover administrative costs. SQA Modern Apprenticeship Program 2021 We are inviting applications for a two-year Modern Apprenticeship in Business Administration at the Scottish Qualifications Authority. We are recruiting six young people to join us in August, and the programme offers the opportunity to develop valuable work-based skills and experience from day one. Successful candidates will gain valuable experience over two 12-month placements within SQA, while also working towards a Scottish Vocational Qualification in Business and Administration, and a Higher National Certificate in Business. The programme is open to young people aged between 16 and 19, and up to 29 for any disabled and/or care-experienced applicants. Applicants should hold a qualification at SCQF level 6, such as a Higher in subjects including English, Mathematics, Social Science, Business Management, and/or Administration.
