P1b and P1d enjoyed working together to develop gymnastiscs skills

P1b and P1d worked cooperatively to develop their skills in gymnastics. We were working on balancing this week which was tricky but we learned some good tips to help us:

you need to hold your tummy muscles in tight”

Aadam

you need to pick a spot on the wall and keep looking it at

Calli

We worked in pairs to practise balancing on different parts of our bodies. Look at some of the great poses we made!

P1b Love Science Experiments

We have been learning about water as part of our Holiday topic. We wanted to find out which things float in water and which things sink in water. We decided to carry out an experiment to find out. We made predictions (good guesses) first and then tested these out.

We then decided to add some salt to see if things would float more easily in salt water. We tested this out with an egg. We found that the egg floated in the water that had the salt added. We now know that things are more likely to float in the sea especially if it is very salty.

I liked doing the sheet to guess what would float and what would sink. Some of my predictions were right.  Abbi

I liked putting things into the water to see if they would float or sink. Ethan

P1b Love Using Beebots

P1b have been using beebots to practise their sounds. We had to programme the beebot to go forwards, backwards, left and right in order to land on our chosen sound.

I loved making the beebot go round in a big circle (Aadam)

We had to try to make sure the beebot didn’t go too far forward or it would come off the sound mat (Susanna)

Autumn Work

Have a look at some of the activities Primary 1d have been taking part in over the season of Autumn.

“We have been learning to write. We know our double sounds now.” Hollie (1d)

“I was making a book. I used tracing paper to draw the front cover.” Lucas P1d

The children have been working hard to identify missing sounds in words.

All pupils are encouraged to take ownership of their learning and use the class camera to photograph their work. Well done, boys and girls, the photographs are excellent!

Amelia G (1d) made this sentence using words from her word tin!

Well done, Anah (1d) this is a great sentence!

“I was spelling ‘hen’ for my task. I liked using the cubes with the letters on them.” Jamie (1d)

I explore sounds, letters and words, discovering how they work together, and I can use what I learn to help me as I read and write.Tools ENG 0-12a / LIT 0-13a / LIT 0-21a

“We make towers of cubes to match the number.” Caoimhe (1d)

“We were using our number fans to show Mrs Friel the right number. She asks us what number is before and after.” Angus (1d)

I have explored numbers, understanding that they represent quantities, and I can use them to count, create sequences and describe order.
MNU 0-02a

The children have been using ‘adding monsters’ and cubes to help them understand the concept of adding.

I use practical materials and can ‘count on and back’ to help me to understand addition and subtraction, recording my ideas and solutions in different ways.

Teamwork makes the dream work! Some of the children built a house for Mrs Gear in the open area.

“We have put pipes in your house for the heating!” Noah (1d)

“I was building a big slide and putting balls down it to make a bridge game.” Ella G (1d)

“We made a den to hide in!” Thea (1d)

We were putting our creative skills to good use when making these spooky Halloween designs!

Check back regularly for our winter update!

Look at how far P1a have come in Literacy!

Term 1 has  been very busy in P1a!  These are just a few pictures of the different activities we have  enjoyed doing.

Primary 1b’s Pilot Visit

As part of our holiday topic, Mrs Kirk (Ethan’s Mummy) kindly came in to tell us about what it is like to be a pilot. She loves to fly people to their holiday destinations. This was very exciting and we learned so much including:

“what all the buttons are for” (Calli)

“how to start and stop the plane” (Lilly)

“on a long flight a pilot can have a little nap and the other pilot takes over. They take shots each” (Abbi)

Building Bridges & Creating Games

The boys and girls from P1a, 1b and 1d had loads of fun during Muddy Movers time. The challenge was to build bridges. Some children wanted to build bridges between the raised planters.

They soon found out they had to work as a team.

“We need to make sure it doesn’t wobble and someone falls off.”

Within real and imaginary situations, I share experiences and feelings, ideas and information in a way that communicates my message.

LIT 0-26a

They used their imagination to make it into a fun game.

“We can’t touch the ground, it’s dangerous waters down there!”

“It’s like walking the plank on a pirate ship.”

The children came up with different ways to travel along the bridges.

I am developing my movement skills through practice and energetic play.

“You have to keep your arms out to balance.”

The creativity didn’t stop there. Some children took some guttering and planks to make up some new games. They rolled small logs down to try and hit a target.

“If you roll and hit the stone you score 100 points!”

NB: Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for Muddy Movers Each week.

Thank you. 🙂

Outdoor Learning

P1c and P1e have been enjoying exploring the outdoors. Our weekly Muddy Movers sessions allow us to be creative and work as a team. Some of us decided to build a tent whilst others practised balancing on some of the big logs!

We particularly enjoyed our Autumn walk and took part in an Autumn challenge. Thank you to the Mums who helped us!

I am learning to move my body well, exploring how to manage and control it and finding out how to use and share space. HWB 0-21a
