P5c handle data outdoors!

We have been learning all about data handling.  Having discussed the variety of ways used to represent data, we can interpret and draw conclusions from the information displayed.

Today, we worked collaboratively in groups of four, to gather and present data.  We used this data, outdoors, to create graphs using outdoor materials.

What great fun we had! Look at our amazing pictures.

Well done Primary 5c! You did an amazing job today.

Have a happy October break to you and your families 🙂

P5c – Living a healthy lifestyle!

We have been learning about how to live a healthier lifestyle.  We have been exploring lots of different food alternatives that are better for us, but still taste delicious!

This week, in writing, we wrote instructions of how to make a healthy pizza! They sounded so tasty, we decided to make them! 🙂

Look how well we did.  They are healthy and tasted yum!

Well done Primary 5c you did a great job! Try and re make them at home for your families 🙂

Take a look at what P3b have been doing!

Our Local Area Study

Library Visit

Last week we spent Thursday afternoon exploring our local area.  We walked to Giffnock library and explored it as an interesting place in our community.

It was a beautiful afternoon and everyone really enjoyed themselves. We learned about different ways we could use our local library.  We then chose a book each and took it back to school to read.

“I liked seeing the old newspapers, in the library, because they were from a long time ago.  This was cool! I liked being able to chose my own book.”  –  Will

“I liked seeing all the books in their order. I also liked seeing the big machine and what it was used for.  I liked having some quiet time to look at all the different types of books.”   – Holly

Traffic Survey

Last week, we spent some time observing the traffic outside our school.  We made some predictions about the types of traffic there would be.  We then made a survey grid with the different types of transport.  Using tally marks, we recorded how many cars, buses, bicycles, vans and lorries we saw.

We were shocked to see a lot of cars and not one single bicycle.

“We were trying to see how many vehicles we could spot.  We saw lots of cars and a couple of buses.  We didn’t see any bicycles.  I thought this activity was lots of fun because we had to use our maths skills too and I quite like maths.”   – Cara

“We spotted cars, vans, buses and lorries.  We didn’t see any bikes or even people walking.  I liked spotting all the cars moving.  I liked doing this activity outside because it was different and fun.”   – Conor

Science – Germs & Diseases

We started a new topic in science.  Last week, we did some brainstorming about what common diseases are.  We did some pictures of what kinds of diseases we know about.

We are going to be finding out about the symptoms of some common diseases caused by germs. We will discuss how their are spread and we will explore some methods of preventing and treating them.

“We were doing pictures about some diseases and their effects on humans.  We knew about the flu, the cold and chicken pox.  I liked drawing the wee person in the middle and writing some of the diseases we knew.”  –  Cameron

“We were writing the diseases that we have had and talking about how germs caused them.  I liked colouring the poster to make it look nice and then drawing the germs.”   – Leo

Creative Talents

We have been very proud this term of our flourishing talents.

Joe worked very hard to create a pencil case with many different, impressive components.  Well done Joe.

Elsa and Penny worked hard together writing a poem.  They selected the subject themselves and created three wonderful rhyming verses.  Well done girls.

Science Centre Trip – Tuesday 5th June

Related image

Next week, we are going on a school trip to the Science Centre in Glasgow.

Can everyone please be reminded that all pupils must wear their school uniform.  This is so they can be easily identified as there will be lots of other school children there.

Everyone needs to bring a small bag for their packed lunch and water bottle.

NO money is required as there will not be an opportunity to spend it.

Thank you.

P3b enjoy the sunny weather!

P3b have been very busy this week. We took full of advantage of the good weather today and got outside.

PE – Tennis

Today, we worked on controlling a tennis racket.  We used backhand and forehand stroke movements.  We used tennis rackets, bean bags, tennis balls and hula hoops to practise our control and hitting skills.

Outdoor Learning – Literacy

In the outdoor classroom, we used chalk to practise our spelling words.  We challenged ourselves to put the words into a sentence.  We then gave each word or sentence a value and calculated the total at the end.

HWB – Gardening

P3b have really enjoyed the opportunity to do some planting.  They have planted onions and they are really looking forward to planting some more.

Well done P3b. Keep up all the hard work!

P3b – Lots of learning!

Science – Earth, Moon and Sun

Primary 3b have been learning about the Earth, the moon and the sun.  They have been observing and recording the earth, the sun and the moon at various times.  They have been exploring and describing their patterns of movement and changes over time.  They have been relating these to the length of a day, a month and a year.

They can describe how the Earth spins around its axis in 24 hours resulting in day and night. They can explain why the moon appears to have different shapes and positions in the sky at different times in a lunar month.

“I like learning about the solar system because I love space.  I find it very interesting that the moon changes shape every few nights in a lunar month.” (Gabriel E)

“I like the videos about the moon because they are really funny.  I also like that I know a lot of facts about the earth, the sun and the moon.” (Jai)

PE – Gymnastics

This week, they have been working on controlling their bodies.  They have been rolling, jumping, balancing and making shapes with their bodies.

Primary 3b have been really enjoying this aspect of PE.

“I like gymnastics because it’s fun.  I like jumping on the springboard and making a body shape on the landing mat.” (Hamish)

“My favourite part of gymnastics is making shapes with my body.  I like it because it is calm and quiet.  I like having fun with all the mats on the ground.” (Laurina)

Literacy – Outdoor Learning

This week, they were using the outdoors as inspiration to solve some riddles.  After that, they came up with their own riddles, using vocabulary from their outdoor environment.  They really loved this activity and had a lot of fun, being creative, coming up with their own.

Well done P3b – Keep up all the hard work!  🙂

“I liked how we got to work as a team to make our own riddles.  We used rhyming words from the outdoors to help us.” (Joe)

“All of the riddles were different and quite challenging.  I liked the one that was about a tree.  We loved making up our own because we could be as creative as we wanted.” (Elsa)

“I liked how we worked together to find the answers to the riddles.  I liked that we all solved one riddle each.  My favourite bit was making our own at the end.” (Niamh)

Keep up the hard work 3b! 🙂

P3b have been very busy!

Primary 3b have already been very busy, this term. Have a look at some of the things we have been learning.

This week, outdoors, we were consolidating our knowledge of times tables and addition strategies.  We collected sticks, bark, leaves and stones.

We created pictures using the materials we had gathered.  We allocated each object a value and then we calculated the total value of our pictures.  We had a lot of fun doing this challenge.

“My favourite part of this was collecting all the stuff.  It was like we were going on an adventure.” (Aleena)

“I liked making the pictures and calculating what value they were worth.” (Cian)

“I liked collecting all the stuff. I also liked working in my group with Gabriel E, Samuel and Cian.” (James)

This term, we have started doing gymnastics in PE. This week, we were stretching, balancing and working on controlling our bodies.  We had some very talented leaders and demonstrators.

“I liked demonstrating jumping over the bench.  My favourite part of it was choosing three shapes to make with my body.” (Mia)

“I liked doing the bridges in gymnastics.  I loved being a team leader.” (Sarah)

In Talking & Listening, we learned about children’s and teachers rights.  We had a group discussion about what we thought were rights and what were responsibilities.

Today, we had a real treat trying out the new Virtual Reality headsets.  We had a go at using them to get used to them.  We are looking forward to using them as part of our learning this term.
