Sports Leaders at St Ninian’s

Primary 5 A & B enjoyed their trip to St Ninian’s for Athletics. It was great fun working with the S6 Sports Leaders and developing our skills in running, jumping and throwing. We tested our balance and coordination through the games and really enjoyed working as a team for the baton relay!

Science Centre

Primary 3c have had a really busy last few weeks with different outings around our Local area and a trip to the Science Centre. Have a look at the pictures below. First of all we went into the Planetarium and learned all about Space, the constellations and the planets. Then we got a chance to explore each different floor of the Science Centre. Here were some of our favourite parts:

Sophie said: “My favourite part was the Planetarium because I liked seeing Space.”

Eesa said: “I liked the Planetarium because of the stars and I liked seeing the different animals which were in the shapes of the stars.”

Lewis said: “My favourite part was the upside down house. It was a house that you went into and it made you feel all funny and dizzy because it was upside down”.

Celeste said: “I liked the games especially the Multi-tasking game where you had to press the green buttons as soon as they changed colour. It was quite hard because you had to concentrate on lots of different things.”

Coding

We have been using lots of different digital technology this week! We have been coding using beebots and probots. Have a look at our pictures below:

 

We have also been using a coding programme on the Chromebooks which we have loved! We are becoming so good at it.Ā Here are some of the things we enjoyed about it.

Isabella said: “I like being able to try and get the beebot to a destination.”

Gabriel M said “I like the games you can play when coding”.

Martha said ” I like using electronics to learn.”

Ellie said ” I enjoy using lots of different shapes with the probots. I had to try a few times before I worked out how to do it.”

Seonaidh said: “I thought the Beebots were really fun and they taught us how to independently find the treasure on the map by programming the beebot.”

PE and FrenchĀ 

Today in PE we took our learning outdoors and made the most of the nice weather. We combined PE and French and played games using French instruction.

P3b enjoy the sunny weather!

P3b have been very busy this week. We took full of advantage of the good weather today and got outside.

PE – Tennis

Today, we worked on controlling a tennis racket.Ā  We used backhand and forehand stroke movements.Ā  We used tennis rackets, bean bags, tennis balls and hula hoops to practise our control and hitting skills.

Outdoor Learning – Literacy

In the outdoor classroom, we used chalk to practise our spelling words.Ā  We challenged ourselves to put the words into a sentence.Ā  We then gave each word or sentence a value and calculated the total at the end.

HWB – GardeningĀ 

P3b have really enjoyed the opportunity to do some planting.Ā  They have planted onions and they are really looking forward to planting some more.

Science – Earth, Moon and Sun

Primary 3b have been learning about the Earth, the moon and the sun.Ā  They have been observing and recording the earth, the sun and the moon at various times.Ā  They have been exploring and describing their patterns of movement and changes over time.Ā  They have been relating these to the length of a day, a month and a year.

They can describe how the Earth spins around its axis in 24 hours resulting in day and night.Ā They can explain why the moon appears to have different shapes and positions in the sky at different times in a lunar month.

“I like learning about the solar system because I love space.Ā  I find it very interesting that the moon changes shape every few nights in a lunar month.” (Gabriel E)

“I like the videos about the moon because they are really funny.Ā  I also like that I know a lot of facts about the earth, the sun and the moon.” (Jai)

 

PE – GymnasticsĀ 

This week, they have been working on controlling their bodies.Ā  They have been rolling, jumping, balancing and making shapes with their bodies.

Primary 3b have been really enjoying this aspect of PE.

“I like gymnastics because it’s fun.Ā  I like jumping on the springboard and making a body shape on the landing mat.” (Hamish)

“My favourite part of gymnastics is making shapes with my body.Ā  I like it because it is calm and quiet.Ā  I like having fun with all the mats on the ground.” (Laurina)

Literacy – Outdoor LearningĀ 

This week, they were using the outdoors as inspiration to solve some riddles.Ā  After that, they came up with their own riddles, using vocabulary from their outdoor environment.Ā  They really loved this activity and had a lot of fun, being creative, coming up with their own.

“I liked how we got to work as a team to make our own riddles.Ā  We used rhyming words from the outdoors to help us.” (Joe)

“All of the riddles were different and quite challenging.Ā  I liked the one that was about a tree.Ā  We loved making up our own because we could be as creative as we wanted.” (Elsa)

“I liked how we worked together to find the answers to the riddles.Ā  I liked that we all solved one riddle each.Ā  My favourite bit was making our own at the end.” (Niamh)

P3b have been very busy!

Primary 3b have already been very busy, this term.Ā Have a look at some of the things we have been learning.

This week, outdoors, we were consolidating our knowledge of times tables and addition strategies.Ā  We collected sticks, bark, leaves and stones.

We created pictures using the materials we had gathered.Ā  We allocated each object a value and then we calculated the total value of our pictures.Ā  We had a lot of fun doing this challenge.

This term, we have started doing gymnastics in PE. This week, we were stretching, balancing and working on controlling our bodies.Ā  We had some very talented leaders and demonstrators.

ā€œI liked demonstrating jumping over the bench.Ā  My favourite part of it was choosing three shapes to make with my body.ā€ (Mia)

ā€œI liked doing the bridges in gymnastics.Ā  I loved being a team leader.ā€ (Sarah)

In Talking & Listening, we learned about children’s and teachers rights.Ā  We had a group discussion about what we thought were rights and what were responsibilities.

Today, we had a real treat trying out the new Virtual Reality headsets.Ā  We had a go at using them to get used to them.Ā  We are looking forward to using them as part of our learning this term.

 

P3c enjoying tennis!

Tennis Fun

Primary 3c had a fantastic morning practising their tennis skills through a range of activities.

At this station we were working with our partners using sticky bats and foam balls.

At this station we were controlling the tennis balls simultaneously. We had to use teamwork and coordination skills.

Then we practised hitting the ball with tennis rackets while our partners threw the ball to us.

This group were using foam bats to practise their skills with their partners.

P3b – Badminton

Today, P3b were working very hard on their control skills in PE.Ā  They really enjoyed using balloons to practice controlling a piece of light equipment like a shuttlecock.

The balloons were a fantastic way of allowing the pupils control and manoeuvre quickly whilst trying to keep them in the air.Ā  They used badminton rackets in pairs to practice their passing skills.

Then, they worked in teams of four to practice passing the balloon through a hoop.Ā  This was a great way for them to practice keeping control of the balloon whilst trying to get it through the hoop.

Well done P3b.Ā  You worked very hard this morning as a team and you were very successful. We are looking forward to lots more fun playing badminton.

P3b play cricket!

P3b had a great afternoon playing cricket.

 

They have been discovering a little bit about the game of cricket.Ā  Today, they were working on linking actions of throwing and catching the ball.Ā  They were very motivated to practice and improve their skills to develop control and flow of the ball.

They are keen to continue playing cricket.Ā Ā They did really well today, following instructions and working as a team.

Scottish Catholic Education Week

Primary 3b have been really busy recently.

This year, the theme for Scottish Catholic Education week is, ”Serving the Common Good”.

We have been learning about the part we play in making the world a better place.Ā  We discussed how we serve the Common Good in our homes, our school and our communities.

In school, we have been trying to show kindness, patience and fairness to everyone.Ā  We have been working as a team during PE.

We have been doing team games and trying really hard to apply the skills, we have learned during Catholic Education Week, everyday at school.
