NPS Friday Newsletter 12.01.24

Hello everyone,

Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful holiday with your family.  It has been a delight to welcome all the staff and children back to school. As we begin a new year, we are excited to see your children continue to be happy, settled and make good progress here at Netherlee Primary. Here’s to another year of fun and fantastic learning!

Upcoming Events
Please have a look at the parent calendar, available on our Netherlee Website, to see all the dates and times of the various events coming up.  This link will take you straight there https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/er/sandnc/calendar.

Diversity Month
Building on the success of last year’s Diversity events, all children in our school and nursery will be participating in Diversity Month during the month of February. We were incredibly lucky last year that lots of our parents and carers came in to share their cultural background with cooking, music, languages, dance and so much more and we would love to welcome even more of you again this year.

We have been looking at all themes of diversity during our Pupil Parliament time: race, gender, socio-economic, neuro, ethnicity and religion and wish to develop our Diversity Month even further to include more of these throughout the month.

If you feel this is something you would be able to help with, please contact Mrs Linn through school mail: SchoolMail@netherlee.e-renfrew.sch.uk . You are welcome to speak to individual classes or whole stages about your experiences and/or lead active sessions, with the support of school staff and we can work around a time that suits you best.

Celebrating Wider Achievements at Netherlee
We would like to continue to invite you to share information about a recent wider achievement that your child has done by completing the Wider Achievements form below. We are always looking for ways to recognise and celebrate our children’s wider achievements out with Netherlee. As detailed in our Promoting Positive Behaviour Policy, during stage assemblies each month, certificates are awarded to pupils who have really tried to uphold the Netherlee Values, for Effort and Progress and for Achievements within and out with school. For example, many of our children take part in extracurricular clubs and competitions, charity work or simply have learnt a new life skill. We will check this form regularly so that we can celebrate as many children’s achievements as possible.

Primary 4c Staffing Update
We are delighted to share the news that Mrs Suzanne McGeachy will be returning from her maternity leave on Wednesday 17th January. Mrs McGeachy will work every Thursday, Friday and alternate Wednesdays. Your child will continue to be taught by Miss MacInnes on alternate Wednesdays, Mondays and Tuesdays. We are very much looking forward to welcoming Mrs McGeachy back into school and know she is excited about her return and working with your children.

Primary 5: Diversity Topic
As part of their Diversity topic Primary 5 will be exploring African style musical instruments. They will have the opportunity to make one and it would be really helpful if the children could bring in any of the following items to help with this:

  • Kitchen roll tubes
  • Jam jar/coffee jar (or similar) lids
  • Small tubs such as margarine or large yogurt pots
  • Small plastic drinks bottles (less than 500ml if possible)
  • Bottle tops (metal if possible)
  • Any tiny buttons or unwanted hama beads (or items of similar size)

We are sure the children will be desperate to show you which instrument they chose to create.  We will be working on this over several weeks so any contributions would be gratefully received from Monday 15th January until Thursday 8 February. All contributions will go into a communal pile for the children to choose from. Thank you
