Our children have been incredibly fortunate that many of our staff, parents and even grandparents have volunteered their time to lead a range of extra-curricular clubs in terms 1 and 2. We have offered a range of clubs from sewing and dance to art and chess!

If you would be willing and able to lead an after-school club (with a teacher facilitating), Mrs Linn would love to hear from you! After-school clubs run from 3.15pm- 4.15pm and last between 4-6 weeks. They can be with any age group and we can accommodate almost any activity (depending on the equipment required).

Please contact Mrs Linn at SchoolMail@netherlee.e-renfrew.sch.uk by Friday 13 December if you would like to volunteer your time or would like to discuss your ideas further. We look forward to hearing from you.

School and Nursery Photographs
We will be welcoming Jane Henderson back into our school and nursery from Monday 26th February until Friday 15th March. She will take:

  • class, individual and sibling photographs of children in P1 and P7.
  • class and individual photographs of children in P2-P6.
  • our nursery children will have individual photographs

The photographs will be taken indoors so we don’t have to worry about the weather!
As always, we will do our very best to include all children in the photographs but this may not be possible if a pupil is absent during Jane’s time at school and nursery.

Please could school children wear a shirt and school tie on the day/s their photos are due to be taken as we have timetabled these sessions around PE and outdoor learning days. We always have spare ties in school that the children can wear, if needed. Nursery children can wear their normal nursery clothes.

Please see timetables below, which details the days and times your child’s photograph is due to be taken. We hope the photographs will be a lovely memento of your child’s year in school and nursery.

Diversity Evening – 28th February
With less than one week to go, we are very excited to be welcoming our community in for our second Diversity Evening. We have lots of amazing performances, delicious food tasting opportunities as well as stalls which celebrate the wealth of diversity in our school and all the wonderful learning that has taken place during Diversity Month. Lots of the evening can be enjoyed at no cost however, there will be a small charge for some items, for example our delicious Derby ice cream!  We can’t wait to see lots of our families on Wednesday evening!

Request for sock donations
We enjoy many opportunities for learning outdoors at Netherlee and we appreciate any extra clothes for children that require changes when the weather is wet. We need spare socks almost every day and are hoping that you could donate some.  Socks for all age groups are needed but particularly for Primary 1 to Primary 3. Please send in any spare, clean pairs of socks for the attention of Mrs Toman. Thanks for your help with this!

Online Safety
Euan Graham from the charity NSPCC, recently delivered an excellent parent workshop, Keeping Children Safe Online. If you were not able to make it along a pre-recorded version is now available through their website. To access it click here.

We have also created an Online Safety section of our website. It has information, links and guides to help you support your family with all aspects of digital wellbeing and cyber resilience.

Save a Life Day – Monday 4th March
Many of you will be aware that we have held very successful and enjoyable Save a Life Scotland events in previous sessions, aimed at equipping our children with basic cardiac resuscitation (CPR) skills. Save a Life Scotland supports the training of people of all ages in “bystander CPR” techniques, which can make a vital difference in emergency situations. We plan to do this annually with the help of local firefighter’s service personnel, our colleagues and senior pupils from Williamwood High School. This year’s Save a Life Scotland Day will take place on Monday 4th March 2024. It will be led by one of our parents (a consultant in emergency medicine) and we are very grateful to them for their enthusiasm and expertise.

Whilst we feel that these skills are important for our children to experience and develop, we also recognise that some of our children may potentially, for personal reasons, find this activity upsetting. If you therefore wish to discuss this in relation to your own child, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us so that we can help and work this out together.

Children in Primaries 5 – 7 will use NHS dummies for the CPR training. Younger children manage better when using smaller models, and for this reason we would like to request that on the day of the event, Primaries 1 – 4 bring one soft toy into school (if possible). There are no restrictions on the type of toy but, ideally, the toy should be approximately 30 – 40 cm in length.

Foodbank Donation Drive – 8th March
We are joining other establishments in East Renfrewshire to support the East Renfrewshire Foodbank, The Trussell Trust. More information can be found in this letter.

Primary 1 and Primary 7 – National Dental inspection Programme
Please see NHS letter regarding the dental inspection programme for your child.

Primary P1c – Change of P.E. Days
Please note, P1c P.E. days are now Tuesday and Thursday. Many thanks for your continued support.

Primary P2a – Change of P.E. Days
Please note, P2a now have Outdoor P.E. on Monday and Indoor P.E. on Thursday. Many thanks for your continued support.

Primary 3 Pancakes & Maple Syrup
Our Primary 3 classes were very lucky to have one of our wonderful parents in talking about Canada today and we would like to give the children the opportunity to taste pancakes with Canadian maple syrup next week. We have taken into account all allergy information we have on record however, if anything has changed, please do get in touch with Mrs Linn at SchoolMail@netherlee.e-renfrew.sch.uk . We hope your child has enjoyed taking part in our Diversity celebrations this year.

Primary 7 – Pep Rally Fundraiser Reminder
A kind reminder that on Tuesday the 5th of March (9.30-10.30am), Primary 7 would love you to come along to our Pep Rally. Tickets will be £2.50 a head and all profits will be going towards the school show, High School Musical. Please see the attached flyer for more information. Tickets are available to purchase on parent pay.

Have a lovely weekend.

Hello everyone

Adverse Weather Guidance
Please click on the link to read important information regarding this.

A Message from our P7 House Captains- Charity Event: 9th December
We are the House Captains and one of our jobs is to organise events. We spoke to all of the pupils and asked them to vote on a charity that we would support. The charity that we have selected is Guide Dogs UK https://www.guidedogs.org.uk/ We think that this is a very important charity as it helps visually impaired people all over the UK.

On Friday 9th December we have organised some activities and events to raise awareness of this important charity. In class your child will learn about guide dogs and take part in some fun activities.

To celebrate this day, if possible, we would very much like your child to wear their House Coloured T- shirt on this day as part of their school uniform.

Chatter Café (Wednesday 21st December 9.15am – 9:45am)
We always strive to have excellent ways for you to get in touch with us and we have therefore introduced termly drop in sessions for any parent from nursery or school who would like to pop in for a coffee and chat with the Leadership Team. This is a very informal opportunity to come along and chat to us.  Some of our pupils would also love to serve you a juice or a coffee/ tea and there may even be some of their delicious baking there too. On the 21st, this will be our second time running the Chatter Café this session, and we thoroughly enjoyed chatting to lots of parents at our café in term 1. You maybe have an idea or a suggestion on any aspect of Netherlee life or you may have concerns or looking for some advice. Our PTA will also be with us so you can find out about the PTA or volunteering in school and nursery too or even if you just fancy a quick coffee and a chat with some other parents! We will also have the recycled uniform rails available to browse as well. We look forward to welcoming anyone who has a spare few minutes on the date and time above.

Everyone Matters
Thanks to those that have already volunteered to be involved in our ‘Everyone Matters’ partnership group.  We would be delighted to see more parents join us! If you would like to be a part of this group, simply please get in touch in the usual way or read more here.

Note of Thanks from the PTA
A huge thank you from the PTA for the brilliant support at the Winter Fair yesterday. Thank you to our lovely stall holders, to the raffle prize donors, to the PTA volunteers, to the nursery and primary staff, to the pupils who decorated windows, ran stalls, sang in the choir and made items for the fair. Thank you to everyone who donated pre-loved items, donated to the tombola’s and who came along to make such a lovely evening. Thank you to the facilities staff for cleaning everywhere ready for school again today. We hope you all enjoyed it, and thank you for making it a success.

I would also like to add my own thanks to the wonderful PTA.  Last night’s event was fantastic and it was very special being able to watch the Netherlee community attending these types of events in our school once again.  You have had a very busy and productive term PTA, thank you for all that you do for the school and nursery.

Lollipops in Playground
The staff who support our children during intervals and lunchtime have noticed an increase in the number of children eating lollipops for snack.  We are concerned about the potential danger of children having lollipops in their mouths while running around and playing, as these act as a potential choking hazard.  As such, we would be very grateful if you could avoid providing lollipops for your child to eat during school time.  Thank you for your support with this.

Primary 1 and 2: Recycled Donations

As you know, children lead their own learning through play in P1 and P2. Children’s ideas and interests are a key consideration when planning for our classroom and Open Area and resources. We are on the hunt for pre-loved items related to the children’s interests. These are items that you would otherwise be throwing away that we can use to refresh our resources in the Open Area. If you have, and are finished with, any of these types of items, please place any donations into a bag and leave this in our Recycled Donations Box situated at the main school office entrance from 28th November.  Many, many thanks.

This week, we are still looking for the following resources to support our Creativity and Role Play area:

  • Café role play items (e.g. aprons, tablecloths)
  • Old hats, ties, scarves and chunky jewellery
  • Shoe/Tissue boxes and kitchen roll tubes
  • Yoghurt pots

Primary 1 to Primary 6: Free Bus Travel for Under 22s
As you may know, this scheme launched in January this year allowing children and young people aged 5-21 who live in Scotland to travel for free by bus with a valid National Entitlement Card (NEC) or Young Scot NEC. More information on the scheme and how to apply can be found on the website freebus.scot and has lots of information about free bus travel, how it works, how to apply, the benefits and some tips for travelling safely too. A poster with more information can also be found here and here.

Primary 3: New Stage Leader
Just a little note to say, that Mrs Kelly Linn has taken over Stage lead for Primary 3. Please do not hesitate to get in touch via email to schoolmail@netherlee.e-renfrew.sch.uk or by calling the school office on 0141 570 7260.

Primary 4 to Primary 7 Church Service
Your child’s class will attend the Netherlee Christmas Service, which will take place on the morning of Tuesday 20th December at 11.15am in Netherlee and Stamperland Parish Church. In order for your child to attend this event with their class please ensure that you have completed the walking in the local area consent form through parentsportal. Please note, due to ongoing roof repairs of the church, we have limited space to accommodate all parents and carers at this event, and as such only one family member of those children that are performing at the service have been invited to attend.

We would like to include all of our children in this event, however, if you would prefer that your child does not participate, please contact the school office.

Primary 7d: Living Streets Walk to School Challenge
Primary 7d are taking part in an exciting initiative over December to encourage more children to walk to school and to be active during the school week.  WOW – the walk to school challenge – is delivered by Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking, to help as many children as possible experience the benefits of walking. Living Streets is an inclusive organisation and work alongside families to ensure every child has the opportunity to earn a badge. Please read the attached letter for more information. We would greatly appreciate it if you could complete the parent/carer survey via the link https://forms.office.com/e/buxVJWa1H7.

Have a lovely weekend.
