Hello everyone

Thank-you to the two members of staff, Joanne Greig and Lynne Morton, who led the Bookbug sessions this week which were a great success. The children and families had a wonderful time singing songs and listening to rhyming stories. Thank-you to all who were able to attend! We look forward to welcoming you all again at our next sessions in Term 3.

A Message from our P7 House Captains- UK National Charity Event
We are the House Captains and one of our jobs is to organise events. We spoke to all of the school pupils and asked them to vote on a charity that we would support. The charity that we have selected is Guide Dogs UK https://www.guidedogs.org.uk/ .We think that this is a very important charity as it helps visually impaired people all over the UK.

On Friday 9th December we have organised some activities and events to raise awareness of this important charity. We will visit the nursery buildings to talk to the children about guide dogs and carry out some fun activities with them.

Thank you, Noah and Millie (House Captains)

Chatter Café (Wednesday 21st December 9.15am – 9:45am)
We always strive to have excellent ways for you to get in touch with us and we have therefore introduced termly drop in sessions for any parent from nursery or school who would like to pop in for a coffee and chat with the Leadership Team. This is a very informal opportunity to come along and chat to us.  Some of our pupils would also love to serve you a juice or a coffee/ tea and there may even be some of their delicious baking there too. On the 21st, this will be our second time running the Chatter Café this session, and we thoroughly enjoyed chatting to lots of parents at our café in term 1. You maybe have an idea or a suggestion on any aspect of Netherlee life or you may have concerns or looking for some advice. Our PTA will also be with us so you can find out about the PTA or volunteering in school and nursery too or even if you just fancy a quick coffee and a chat with some other parents! We will also have the recycled uniform rails available to browse as well. We look forward to welcoming anyone who has a spare few minutes on the date and time above.

Everyone Matters
Thanks to those that have already volunteered to be involved in our ‘Everyone Matters’ partnership group.  We would be delighted to see more parents join us! If you would like to be a part of this group, simply please get in touch in the usual way or read more here.

Note of Thanks from the PTA
A huge thank you from the PTA for the brilliant support at the Winter Fair yesterday. Thank you to our lovely stall holders, to the raffle prize donors, to the PTA volunteers, to the nursery and primary staff, to the pupils who decorated windows, ran stalls, sang in the choir and made items for the fair. Thank you to everyone who donated pre-loved items, donated to the tombola’s and who came along to make such a lovely evening. Thank you to the facilities staff for cleaning everywhere ready for school again today. We hope you all enjoyed it, and thank you for making it a success.

I would also like to add my own thanks to the wonderful PTA.  Last night’s event was fantastic and it was very special being able to watch the Netherlee community attending these types of events in our school once again.  You have had a very busy and productive term PTA, thank you for all that you do for the school and nursery.

Please see the letter from the Director of Education regarding applying for a P1 primary school place for your child.

A Festive Message
As always I would like to thank all of our families for the continued support and feedback that you give us across the school and nursery.  Recent times, have brought various challenges to many and this includes experiencing various financial challenges too, even more so as we head into the winter months and the festive period. We would therefore like to reiterate the message we have shared over recent years.

Every year we are overwhelmed by the kindness extended to us by way of gifts. While we would never presume of course, what anyone does in this regard, we are very aware that this time of year can present many challenges for everyone.  Therefore, we would like to take this opportunity to say that a kind word, in a homemade card made by your child or a little message via email, would be so lovely to receive and would be appreciated by us every bit as much as any bought gifts, particularly when everyone is facing such challenging financial times right now.

The message above is sent with kindness and gratefulness from all of the Netherlee Staff and we hope that you don’t mind us mentioning this to you.  Thank you.

Hello everyone,

It was lovely to chat with all of our parents and carers this week regarding your children’s progress. Thank-you to all who attended over the past couple of weeks.

We would like to say a huge thank-you to Mrs Johal who led the Bhangra sessions in our Nursery. The children (and staff) had such a wonderful experience and learned some fantastic dance moves! You will see some pictures of the sessions on our school and nursery twitter @sand_c.

Proposed Industrial Strike Action
Following yesterday’s information about proposed Industrial Action, I am confirming that Netherlee Nursery class will be open from 9am – 3pm to all children on Thursday 24th November.  This means children who normally attend on a Thursday extended pattern (8am – 6pm), offered an alternative limited service of core hours (9am – 3pm) for this day only.  Normal communication channels via phone call or email will remain unaffected on these days, should you need to contact the nursery during 9am – 3pm.

I hope this information allows you to plan ahead for next week.

New Arrival Coming Soon
I am sure all parents will wish to join us in saying very best wishes and good luck to one of our nursery staff, Mrs Pamela Montgomerie as she stops on Friday 2nd December to get ready for the arrival of her new baby. Take the time to enjoy every minute of your maternity leave with your new bundle of joy. Jack will be such a wonderful big brother! Sending lots of love to you and your family. We can’t wait to see the photos.

What to bring to Nursery
It has been a little rainy recently- but that does not stop us! Whilst we do have some spare clothing items in nursery, we politely remind you that it is helpful if your child brings spare clothes to nursery each day, particularly extra socks to keep their little feet dry!

Christmas Party Times
As stated in last week’s Friday bundle, our Nursery Christmas party will take place in both buildings on Wednesday 21st December. They should come to nursery in their party clothes for day. To confirm, the Christmas Party will take place between 9:15am-11:30am. If your child does not normally attend on this day, please just let us know as they are more than welcome to join the party!

Hello everyone

What an exciting time we’ve had in Nursery this week! The Fire Service came to visit to talk with the children and staff about their job and also about firework safety.  The children even got a tour of the fire engine and got a shot of the firehose! Thank-you so much to the local Fire Station – the children (and staff!) had a wonderful time. Please keep an eye on our twitter feed @sand_c to see this in action!

Parent Appointments
Please remember that parent’s appointments begin next week (week beginning the 7th  November) and the following week (week beginning the 14th November). If you have not already done so, please choose a suitable date/time on the sign-up sheets at both nursery buildings – we really value being able to discuss your child’s progress at nursery with you during these meetings.

Learning Links
As you know, we currently share weekly Learning Links on your child’s Google Classroom. The Learning Links give an insight of children’s interests, the learning taking place in nursery and any seasonal or cultural events being celebrated.  The activities on this, enable you to have fun doing some similar activities at home if you would like to. To make this easier and more accessible for you the Learning Links grid will now also be issued via the Friday Bundle each week. Please click the links to view this week’s Learning Links for the Acorns and Saplings. The song of the week is ‘Dingle Dangle Scarecrow’. The link to the song of the week can be listened to and enjoyed by logging in to your child’s Google Classroom via this link- enjoy.  https://sts.platform.rmunify.com/Account/SignIn/glow

Nursery Fund
We have regular fundraising events at Netherlee. These events help to raise money for our School and Nursery Funds. Our Nursery Fund helps to provide additional fun, “special” items as well as some toys and games to enhance the children’s learning experiences. As well as having regular fundraising events, we also welcome voluntary payments from parents to our Nursery Fund.  Ideally, a voluntary donation of £30 for this session would be most welcomed. This donation can be paid at any time via ParentPay. This could of course also be given in three termly instalments of £10. However, we fully understand that these are difficult times for all families right now and as such, any smaller donation of your choice would also be greatly appreciated, again made through ParentPay. Many thanks.

Nursery WOW Wall
Thank you to all of you who have shared your children’s little achievements from home. We love celebrating these as well as their achievements in nursery too. Please do let us know of any new or ongoing achievements for example swimming, dancing shows, can ride a bike themselves etc. Simply drop us an email or bring in a photograph at drop off and collection times, we would love to display this on our Nursery WOW Wall.

Recycled Donations
Thank you so much to everyone who has kindly donated recycled items that they would otherwise be throwing out to our nursery. This week we would gratefully receive any cosy items for our story corner, many, many thanks.

  • Small rugs
  • Blankets/Throws
  • Cushions

Health and Social Care Partnership
Please see a letter from HSCP who are experiencing significant pressures in care at home and are progressing a winter recruitment campaign.

Parent Council Meeting
Please see the meeting highlights newsletter from the Parent Council Meeting on 27th October.

PTA Update
Netherlee PTA would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported the pumpkin trail event and the recent discos. It has been lovely to get back to hosting fun events in the school. If you would still like to donate the link is Netherlee Primary PTA | Localgiving.

We are looking ahead to our winter event on the 1st of December which will hopefully be a super event for the whole school and nursery community – but we will need your help to make it a success. We want to bring back the very popular chocolate and bottle tombola’s and offer a variety of activities alongside the stalls. This will take lots of helping hands, both at the fair and on the dress as you please day too. If we all help a little, we can all have time to enjoy the fair with our families too. All the volunteer opportunities are listed here, please sign up so we can be confident the event will go ahead. Netherlee PTA (pta-events.co.uk)

Our Stay and Play sessions have been a great success this week! Our children and staff loved welcoming lots of parents and carers to our nursery.  Please be reminded that we are offering two extra sessions to those who did not manage to attend on Friday 30th September and Monday 3rd October. Please get in contact should you wish to arrange a suitable date/time.

Forest Adventures
Next week, we will be starting Forest Adventures with our pre-school children. Children and staff from both buildings will explore Linn Park and take part in lots of fun outdoor play experiences. We are incredibly lucky here to have such a wonderful outdoor space on our doorstep! It would be very helpful if wellies can be brought to nursery each day for outdoor play experiences- thank you.

Introducing Netherlee’s NEW Chatter Café (Wednesday 5th October 9.15- 10am)
We always strive to have excellent ways for you to get in touch with us and we have therefore introduced termly drop in sessions for any parent from nursery or school who would like to pop in for a coffee and chat with the Leadership Team. Some of our pupils would love to serve you a juice or a coffee/ tea and there may even be some of their delicious baking there too. This is a very informal opportunity to chat to us.

Gardening and Cooking
Our school gardening and cooking exploits have hit the ground running this term and we are very grateful to a number of businesses for providing us with their invaluable support, providing us with both kind donations and materials. A big thank you must go to Robert Findlay Stone Masons, Greensleeves, Ocean Plastic Pots and Kilduff Farm. We are all very appreciative.

Save A Life Day
Many of you will be aware that we have held very successful and enjoyable Save a Life Scotland events in previous sessions, aimed at equipping our children with basic cardiac resuscitation (CPR) skills. Save a Life Scotland supports the training of people of all ages in “bystander CPR” techniques, which can make a vital difference in emergency situations. We now plan to reintroduce this as an annual event. This year’s Save a Life Scotland Day will take place on Friday 7th October. Once again, it will be led by one of our parents (a consultant in emergency medicine) and a team of fully-trained NHS professionals; we are deeply grateful to them for their dedication and expertise.

We are delighted that our nursery children will also have the opportunity to take part in this event too, led by some of our senior pupils, who will be able to share their learning from their training that day.  Nursery children do not need to bring in any soft toy though.  You can find more information about Save a Life Scotland on the website.  http://www.savealife.scot/

Whilst we feel that these skills are important for our children to experience and develop, we also recognise that some of our children may potentially, for personal reasons, find this activity upsetting.  If you therefore wish to discuss this in relation to your own child, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us so that we can help and work this out together.
