The numeracy workshop will cover skills development, preparation for assessment and progression pathways in maths. This workshop will be delivered by the Mathematics department.

The Health & Wellbeing workshop will cover study skills, advice on planning and managing school work, healthy and balanced approaches to school and out of school activities and support available for pupils and parents. This workshop will be delivered by a Principal Teacher of Wellbeing.

Each workshop will last approximately 15 minutes.

I am confident that you will find the evening of benefit at this important point in your son/daughter’s education.

I look forward to seeing you and your son/daughter on the evening.

Engineering the Future for Girls – Monday 8 – Friday 12 June 2020

Strathclyde University is offering a 1-week Summer School for S3 girls (entering S4 in June). Engineering the Future for Girls is being delivered in collaboration with BP and BAM Nuttall and is designed to engage girls in a wide range of engineering challenges that will inspire them to become the next generation of engineers. The summer school is fully-funded by BP and BAM Nuttall and all student costs, including a contribution towards travel, will be covered. Strathclyde will accept applications from girls with any range of subject choices at National 5. The summer school is non-residential and therefore pupils should be able to make their way each day to the Strathclyde University Campus in the heart of Glasgow City Centre. For the pupils’ convenience, we have arranged for Mentors to accompany pupils from and to Queen Street train station, Glasgow Central train station and Buchanan Bus Station at the start and end of each day.

Pupils should apply using the online application form available on our website: www.strath.ac.uk/engineering/outreach/engineeringthefutureforgirls

The deadline for applications is Monday 25 November 2019 and pupils will be sent a confirmation email upon receipt of their application. The selection panel will meet in January 2020 and all applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application by Friday 31 January 2020.

In the application form, pupils are asked to supply the name and contact details for a teacher who can provide a statement in support of their application. Teachers will receive an automated email which will include a designated link to the online application in order to submit their statement. We ask that teacher statements are submitted online by Friday 6 December 2019, in order for the application to be considered.

If you would like any further information on the Summer School, please email: engineeringthefutureforgirls@strath.ac.uk

S3 1st Interim Report

S3 Interim reports were issued today, Thursday 26th September 2019.

As we did for the last report, we again ask that pupils lead a discussion regarding their progress with their parent / carer and complete their online survey at home, using the link and QR code attached to the letter on the report. Pupils are asked to input information regarding their engagement (based on their report), participation (based on the activities that they take part in) and wellbeing linked with the Wellbeing Indicators (SHANARRI).

This should be completed by Tuesday 1st October.  Details can be found on the front of the report.

We thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs J Wilson

S2 Parent’s Evening

The S2 Parents’ Evening will take place on Thursday 30th May. Pupils should have received and appointment time and follow up sheet from their interviewing teacher.  Please ensure the follow up sheet is returned on Tuesday to allow the interviewing teacher time to gather all the information required to answer your queries.  In addition to this, the interviewing teacher will engage in professional discussion with class teachers to ensure a full and comprehensive report is provided regarding your son/daughter’s progress.  If you have any further queries following the interview, the interviewing teacher will take note of this and a member of staff will get back to you as soon as possible.

Your son/daughter should bring their PSHE booklet to the interview.  During the interview they will have the opportunity to lead a discussion about their progress: academic, co-curricular and with regards to their wellbeing.

I will be at the main entrance of the school throughout the evening and look forward to seeing you all.

Kind regards

Mrs J Wilson

YPI Thanks

On behalf of St Ninian’s High School and The YPI Foundation, I would like to congratulate all of our 2nd year pupils for their hard work and enthusiasm during this project. The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) is an active citizenship programme that raises awareness amongst young people about philanthropy and their local community. Each team was responsible for directing a £3000 YPI Grant to a local charity through a unique programme of team work, research and competition. YPI Scotland is all about creativity and passion, leaving the four walls of the classroom behind, and supporting the issues you care most about.

Our pupils took on this challenge with an excellent attitude and their dedication was evident throughout this task since it began in September 2018. 10 groups made it to the final held in February 2019. The winning group was awarded £3000 from The YPI Foundation for their charity. In addition to this, the school donated £100 to each of the remaining 9 finalists. We are very proud of the achievements of all of our pupils and thank them for all that they have done.

Congratulations to our winning team from 2a5 and their charity The Village Storytelling Centre
