The boys and girls have gone chess mad in the class right now. We love playing chess and even watching others play chess in the play zones. Chess is great for problem solving skills and a little bit of quiet time…although it can get a little bit competitive….
To help our understanding of equivalent fractions, we were using fractions walls this morning. We loved using the interactive fraction wall and then we used concrete materials to build our own.
We also used the fraction wall to help us add fractions to make 1 whole.
It has been a very busy maths morning here in P3/2.
The spheres have been learning all about fractions and reading a fraction of an amount.
The cuboids have been learning all about money and calculating amounts.
The circles have just started learning all about volume and capacity and how to read a scale. This morning we were learning about ml and using a variety of jugs to measure amounts within in.
Yesterday we were worked with the Digital Leaders to learn how to use Jam Boards on the laptops. We loved learning a new skill and we plan to use this new skill in class during literacy and science lessons. Jam boards allow 4 different users access to the same document so that everyone can work on the same document at one time and each add their own thoughts and ideas.
This week the boys and girls in the Cuboids are learning all about money. They are identifying notes and coins and then using money to calculate tricky totals.
Yesterday afternoon we continued our learning within the new science topic about sun, moon and stars, We have been learning about the planets and we can now identify all 8 planets in the correct order from the sun. We used oil pastels to create a drawing of the planets and the order in which they come and the results were fantastic. We loved using the oil pastels and learning how to “build” upon each colour to create eye catching colours.
Today 3 of the class built this incredible igloo in the open area. They showed fantastic teamwork skills in building this igloo. Luke explained that he managed to get the roof on the building by building from the inside instead of the outside.
Mr Weir was so impressed with their building work that he gave each of them a GOLDEN HOUSE POINT!!!!
This morning the p3’s have been very busy completing maths work. Some of the boys and girls have been learning how to carry out surveys, record the answers using tally marks and then displaying the data in bar graphs.
Some of the other boys and girls have been working on their 5 times table using concrete materials.
We kicked started Scots literacy week this week by reading The Gruffalo in Scots. We compared the words in the story to the version written in English and we loved learning about all the scots words such a “clook” for claws and “plook” for spot.
We then learned a well known action dance in Scots, watch the video to see how we got on!
